While we didn't exactly expect rapper Kanye West to show up to an AIDS charity gala in Cannes, France in something modest like an A-Class, we admit we didn't see a Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR Stirling Moss coming. After all, while we're all for driving the limited-edition Mac over all of creation if you're of the means to own one, but somehow, showing up to a charity event in a million-dollar bit of rolling exhibitionism seems a wee bit cheesy. Especially when it's probably someone else's car.

Still, the Mercedes-Benz looks fantastic in the wild, even at a blistering 5 mph. For more photos of Kanye trying to see over the SLR's steering wheel, head over to Socialite Life.

Humble fella, hay! I hope he contributed just as much as the cost to rent-an-SLR cost him for the day to the Aids foundation.

kanye west can own/drive a car built by god himself and he'd still be a whiny-ass, new-money chump.

Not sure which is larger, the hood on the SLR or his ego.

Why do they look so unhappy? If I were driving that car, I'd be grinning ear to ear.

wow...im not surprised at the racial undertones here....i've been coming to autoblog since around late 2008 and i have noticed the same exact thing that John Blaze has pointed out....if there is ever a article about someone black posted on here the HATE just spews out from every corner...you mad??....its funny that the dude is actually doing something that will help out a helluva lot of ppl, regardless of what he has done in the past, he is doing something RIGHT at this moment....i wonder would he still be recieving this much hate if he had not snatched the mic out of poor lil blonde haired white girl's hand, taylor, and it had been...hmm lets say a no name(not popular) dark skinned artist...lets be honest, this is the whole reason why these MEN on here still have their panties in a bunch...they've always been secretly racist and envious at the same time...they would secretly love to be in kanye west's presence if given the oppurtunity to meet him #hihater

That no-talent washed up "circus reject" recently released an album to near-universal critical acclaim (94 score on metacritic) and that has been certified platinum. Though he has acted like an idiot in the past, that doesn't mean that he isn't a complete genius. He is an artist, thus, he is a little (or maybe more than a little) crazy just like countless artists throughout history. Isaac Newton, Beethoven, Van Gogh, Michelangelo, Winston Churchill, Marlon Brando, Ernest Hemingway, Peter Gabriel, Brian Wilson, Sting, Axl Rose, Jaco Pastorius, and Jimi Hendrix to name a few, are all famous artists of their craft who are known to have had mental illnesses. Throughout history, great artists have acted like jerks to other people. I am not saying they should get a free pass, only that Kanye isn't the first, and him acting like a jerk doesn't take away from his talent. Also, that photo is pretty damn stylish.

we're ripping on him because he's driving a million dollar, very flamboyant car to a charity event. Typically you'd expect people to show up in something not so in-your-face... like a luxo-barge or something. Also this guy doesn't have a very good track-record of manners and humility. So stop pulling the racist card... it's getting old.

I don't see a lot of comments about race on this thread. It looks like you are the one that brought it up.

This weiner is such a fool. What a disgusting pig. Donate the damn car! It doesn't belong to you? Donate the equal toward the charity! No excuse for this sort of excess. Then he wonders why people think he's a jerk. Because he IS one.
