Lotus Evora S vs. Porsche 911 – Click above to watch video after the jump

How focused do you want your sports car? While you can go out and twist the track-ready dial to 11, some folks only want a dash more punch than the next guy. A daily-drivable hoon machine is what's required, and Fifth Gear lined up two of them to battle it out at the Dutch TT Circuit Assen.

The Lotus Evora S squares off against the Porsche 911, and Fifth Gear's Vicki Butler-Henderson pushes both coupes around the course. Is Germany's icon quicker than this blue British bomber? Click past the jump to find out.

That 3.5 Toyota motor gets the job done.

In these types of head-to-head races, is there ever an allowed margin of error? 4/10ths seems like a very small margin. Is it really just the score taken from one lap or is it usually the cars are raced for several laps and they take the best of those laps? Disappointed to see the Porsche (barely) lose but it did not even have the relatively cheap sports chrono plus package option which I am sure would have erased that 4/10ths difference.

Only barely powered by toyota. About all they use is the block. The rest of the engine is heavily modified to Lotus' specifications.

Wrong. The Lotus Evora uses the Full Spec Toyotas Camry’s 3.5L V6 engine. =]

I'm taking the Evora. While there is the 'powered by Toyota' controversy, the supercharger in the S resolves that. Although, I'm sure there are better choices of V6s, and the Toyota isn't bound to sound too nice. Lotuses are legendary for their track ability, and the Evora is capable of that and being a daily driver. Plus, this may be the last Lotus before Bahar has his way and makes the Lotuses fatter.

The video has failed to load 6 times here. I assume to lotus beat the Porsche on the track? But the Porsche is a much better car in town.

Videos linked to Fifth Gear are hit and miss when it comes to embedding. They put them up and pull them down too quickly. Yes, the Lotus beats the Porsche... and yes, the Porsche would be the better car in town. Sorry the clip wouldn't load for you...
