Scion FR-S spy shots – Click above for high-res image gallery

A lot can change in two days. Remember that Scion FR-S prototype we spied heading to the Nürburgring earlier this week? Well, it's turned into the car you see here, now complete with a more aggressive body kit and a proper wing out back.

Adding the body kit makes the FR-S look much more like the concept car that debuted in New York, and while that big rear spoiler will certainly look more appropriate on the Subaru-badged version of the FT-86 joint venture, it still makes us swoon. (Supra Turbo, anyone?)

We fully expect to see more of the Toyobaru rear-wheel-drive sport coupe as it goes through the full gauntlet of summer testing. Stay tuned for more information as the swirly camouflage gets peeled away.

I just saw a STi on the road, and that wing looks exactly like what I saw on the STi. I think this is Subaru's version.

I'm inclined to agree. STi wing, STi wheels. I'm trying to picture it with a 2012 Impreza-like nose on it...

The wing looks like it's form Subaru's parts bin, but we're pretty sure this is Scion's version of the FT-86.

From the side profile the FR-S resembles the Mitsubishi FTO, which isn't a bad thing at all. The new bodykit is well-integrated, and the rear spoiler certainly looks purposeful. I can only hope that Toyota/Scion and Subaru will inject some real performance into this car.

When my tC is paid off in a few years, I think an FR-S is in my future garage.

I agree with the notion the body kit looks completely out of place on this car and I think someone stole it off a Honda Civic...That being said I am a fan of a rear wing though and it reminds me of the sixth gen celica all-trac...one of Toyota's best cars ever. This is shaping up to be a proper supra/celica successor visually at least...

Same here! I was scrolling pretty fast through autoblog, and at first blink thought it was a new Supera. Made me sit upright in my chair pretty quick with the camo pic. Thought it was a top secret new Supera.

Looks like a classic Supra. I don't care what others say, but the harkening back makes me slightly more excited at the possibility of a Supra revival. After all, the first Supra was a spin-off to a Celica (and the FR-S is arguably a Celica successor).

VW and Audi dominate the Chinese market. If any of you have ever visited a large Chinese city, you will find that Jettas, Boras, Polos and various other models make up a large chunk of taxi fleets. VW Group has a huge advantage over Japanese and American companies (as well as their Bavarian competition). They were able to negotiate a two decade headstart in productive operations before GM, Ford, Honda, Toyota and BMW. Audi was the first luxury make to operate in China long before it was competitive with BMW and Mercedes in developed markets like US and most of Western Europe. In the 80s, VW was out engineered by Japanese companies flooding Europe and America. They basically gave up trying to save their marketshare. They let it drop nearly 90% in the US and were weak enough in Europe for Ford, Honda and Toyota to expand their presence. Also, VW could no longer depend on the Golf to dominate. Instead, they took a huge chance on China with considerable strings attached. Reliability and quality mattered less in China. The reason why the BMW 3 series isn't a market leader like it is almost everywhere else is because BMW was reluctant to let the Chinese have significant control over operations. Audi allowed Chinese factories to build engines in the 80s as well as assemble a range of models with domestic steel and raw materials. This was something unthinkable to it's competitors. Could you really rest your brand's reputation on Chinese steel in the 80s or 90s? VW was a much different companies back then than it is today.
