Red Bull Peachtree Drift Battle in Atlanta – Click above to watch the video after the break

According to the company's slogan, Red Bull is supposed to give you wings. Apparently, all it gives Rhys Millen and Ryan Tuerck is smoke... tire smoke that is, and lots of it.

The two drivers – Millen in his Hyundai Genesis Coupe and Tuerck in his Pontiac Solstice Coupe (may it rest in peace) – were flown out to the Georgian capitol to take part in the Red Bull Peachtree Drift Battle, which, as you may have guessed, takes place down Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta.

There's isn't really a winner to this staged race, except for perhaps all the innocent bystanders who got a much-needed injection of excitement into their routine daily commutes. See all the tire-smoking action in the video after the break.

As someone who currently lives in downtown ATL (int of North Ave and Piedmont), it makes me wonder when this was filmed!?!? Looks like the intersection of P-Tree and West P-Tree, which is a significant intersection. This part of town is mostly businesses/music venues/museums, but there's still plenty of hotels, apartments and condos nearby. They would have had to film it at a early (in the day) time to get that few people out there watching. As evidence, the complete lack of an audience.

It was filmed on a weekday mid-morning last week. I work in the building where P'Tree and W. P'Tree come together. They made four or five passes starting on W. P'Tree near the Arts Center MARTA station, drifting around that corner and then going south on P'Tree to the High Museum. Cops at 17th and north of the intersectino on P'Tree shut down traffic each time before the started.

Drift? More like "Red Bull takes ONE corner, here's a 10 minute video from 100 different angles." What a waste of time.

RE: "Fdgdf Gfhgfjhfg" and "Sdffe Seffsef" Glad to see that your new commenting system, which only "pings" us to confirm our identities (which I'm sure has nothing to do with pulling through our Facebook profile pics) is doing such a good job of preventing spammers and reducing junk comments.

Hey! You must have mistaken this for Prune Juice and Retirement Fund blog! It's ok, this whole "interweb" can be daunting, you'll find you're way around in no time.

Rhys Millen's hybrid accent is really annoying...and this is coming from an Aussie.

Yes, closing that off at morning rush hour for "ten" minutes would be a bit of a disaster. Not that such things haven't been done for larger scale motion pictures/events. It isn't downtown.

Kinda sucks that we won't get to see the Pontiac Solstice / Saturn Sky evolve into something better over time. It had potential. It looks pretty mean as a hardtop, to me anyways...

Daily commute? THere is no way they did this at any sort of general commuting time. Or else the residents would have killed someone, because Peachtree is used by so many commuters in Atlanta. Probably happend sometime in the middle of the day on a weekend I bet. Either way, this is badass.

Kinda badass, but they seemed to just take the one corner. My friends have done similar antics in our youth with an old Datsun 210 wagon and a 78' Buick LeSabre. Albeit with a lot less smoke.
