Automotive News (sub. req.) reports that Honda is once again working on a "spiritual "successor" to the long-dead Acura NSX. Though we've heard ramblings that Honda was developing a new-generation NSX, this is the only time we can remember hearing direct quotes from Honda execs confirming the project's existence.

Takanobu Ito, Honda's chief executive officer and president, reportedly told Automotive News that the Japanese automaker is "working very hard" to develop a sports car that will become the successor to the discontinued NSX. Ito says that the vehicle will be both exhilarating to drive and eco-friendly, which means that it will feature some sort of a hybrid-electric powertrain, according to a Honda spokesman. Ito didn't detail when the hybridized NSX will launch, but he did mention that it will likely be positioned as a high-performance counterpart to the Honda CR-Z.

Oh Honda, don't do this - its a sports car, either go all electric or go all gasoline...don't taint the good name of the NSX with your awful IMA...

You're so confident in your opinion... What specifically is wrong with the Porsche 918 and Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid? Both seem phenomenal to me.

Heh. Honda has been all over the place with this car. Is it v8? v10? hybrid? cancelled? back in production? This is reading like a release schedule for duke nukem forever.

Stupid Honda will once again force feed its impotent IMA into the NSX successor instead of a real hybrid set-up found in the Prius. After ten years of dismal sales of IMA, Honda still don't get it.

probably be a totally non green useless hybrid type but one can hope it will be the real deal, a high performance REEV with emphasis on battery drive.

Make it a cutting edge pure EV, not another hybrid chimera.

It's about time high-performance sports cars get better mpg than somewhere in the teens. In addition to being a hybrid, I also read somewhere that in will include SH-AWD. It might be named the Honda Sports Electric eXperimental, or SEX. Or maybe not. :P
