Epyon BV has kicked off deliveries of "multiple" Terra 51 Charge Stations to Lyse Energi in Norway. The Terra 51, a commercial quick-charge unit, is a single-port system with CHAdeMO's seal of approval.

Recently, Epyon installed a single Terra 51 station in the southern Norwegian city of Sandnes. Epyon says that its planning for the installation of at least two more quick-charge units within the next couple of months. The station in Sandnes, which officially opened April 26th, is said to be the world's first to offer both electricity and carbon-neutral biogas as part of Lyse's "fuels of the future" program.

Epyon's Terra 51 can recharge a plug-in vehicle's battery pack in approximately 30 minutes and in Sandnes, Epyon demonstrated the chargers ease of installation by having the station fully operational within two hours.

Epyon Starts Deliveries for Lyse's EV Fast-Charging Network in Norway

Leading Utility to Build Norwegian Infrastructure of Commercial Charging Stations


RIJSWIJK, The Netherlands, April 26, 2011 – Epyon BV, the leading European supplier of intelligent charging solutions for electric vehicles, today announced that it started delivering multiple EV fast-charging systems to Lyse Energi in Norway.

Epyon recently installed a Terra 51 Charge Station in the southern city of Sandnes, near the E39 highway to Stavanger, and plans installations at least at two more locations in the next two months. The station in Sandnes, which will officially be opened today by Norway's Transport Minister Magnhild Meltveit Kleppa, is the world's first to offer both electricity through fast-charging and carbon-neutral biogas as part of Lyse's "fuels of the future" service model.

"This is a very exciting project for Epyon. Lyse is planning to build and operate one of the most innovative fast-charging networks in the world," said Hans Streng, CEO of Epyon. "This shows that EV fast-charging is turning into serious business for reputable utilities like Lyse."

Epyon's Terra 51 can recharge an EV battery in as little as 15 to 30 minutes. All Epyon systems are future-proof: they're equipped with web-updateable software, allowing easy downloads of communication protocols for new car models and applications to support new charging methods. Epyon's software also allows for remote maintenance and monitoring of the charging levels.

"We selected Epyon as our partner because their fast charging stations offer an excellent connectivity solution and, with that, flexibility and transparency. If you want to operate a network of chargers, you need to be able to constantly monitor and manage the charging process at all the different locations," said Audun Aspelund, business development manager at Lyse.

In Sandnes, Epyon demonstrated its capability to install at gas stations, which involves stricter safety measures because of the fuel storage. Epyon managed to get the station fully operational within two hours, demonstrating its readiness to efficiently handle large infrastructure rollouts.

Backed by a group of seasoned investors, Epyon aggressively scaled up its operations across Europe to meet strongly increasing demand for EV fast chargers. Since launching Europe's first commercially operated fast-charging station in May last year, Epyon has signed multiple agreements with utilities, charging network operators and fleet owners to deploy its industry-leading solutions.
