At the Paris Motor Show last year, Maserati pulled the veil off the GranTurismo MC Stradale – the fastest roadgoing Trident this side of the Enzo-based MC12. And while Maserati won't be selling the MC Stradale on the Western shores of the Atlantic, it has done the next best thing.

The US-market GranTurismo MC is nearly identical to the European-market MC Stradale, save for two key differences: for one, it replaces the Stradale's sequential gearbox with the smoother ZF automatic transmission from the standard GranTurismo, and for another, puts the rear seats that were deleted for the Stradale back in place.

Otherwise it's the same machine, packing the same 450-horsepower 4.7-liter V8 as the MC Stradale (which also powers the new GranCabrio Sport) and the same aggressive aerodynamics package.

Maserati unveiled the GranTurismo MC (as well as the GranTurismo Convertible Sport, as the top-of-the-line convertible is known over here) at its new TriBeCa showroom in Manhattan on the eve of the New York Auto Show. Maserati introduces a taste of the race-bred GranTurismo MC Stradale's magic to North America with the GranTurismo MC.

Launched at Maserati's new stand-alone showroom in the prestigious TriBeCa area of New York, the GranTurismo MC is the fastest production car Maserati has ever sold in the US market.

With a top speed of 298km/h and a 0-100km/h (62mph) time of just 4.9 seconds, the GranTurismo MC is only 3km/h slower than the ultra-aggressive MC Stradale, even though it is aimed at a slightly more luxurious market.

The major difference between the MC Stradale and the GranTurismo MC is in the transmission. Where the MC Stradale boasts the fastest gearshift in the world, the GranTurismo MC has one of the fastest shifts of any full automatic transmission in production.

Maserati has custom developed the GranTurismo MC to deliver US customers the increased power, intuitive handling and aerodynamic gains of the GranTurismo MC Stradale without challenging their tastes for automatic transmissions and four-seat practicality.

Powered by the latest development of the 4.7-liter all-alloy V8 engine, this engine delivers 331 kW at 7000rpm and, with 510Nm at 4750rpm, another 20Nm of torque compared to the GranTurismo S Automatic.

Maserati has made the engine more responsive, more powerful and more economical, thanks to a comprehensive "friction reduction program" including Diamond-Like-Coating of high friction parts inside the valve train. The new exhaust system also plays a part in helping the GranTurismo MC to achieve its seemingly conflicting goals of a six percent improvement in fuel economy and even-better responsiveness.

With a shorter exhaust path, the lighter exhaust not only keeps the bypass valve that enriches and intensifies the engine note, but takes lessons from both the GranTurismo MC Stradale and the GranTurismo MC Trofeo race car by exiting through the centre of the rear bumper.

The GranTurismo MC offers tighter damping control and carries over the race-bred aerodynamics of the GranTurismo MC Stradale that generate increased aerodynamic efficiency to improve ride height at higher speed without increasing the drag.

      My dad is a Maserati dealer, and I can't lie, I'm pretty disappointed. It is not a MC Stradale at all. This is why I hate the US regulations, because manufacturers can never bring the stripped out hardcore versions of cars (M3 CSL, M3 GTS, GT3 RS with the actual rollcage and such). You can also see they didnt leave the bucket seats of the Stradale, and it doesn't have the carbon-ceramic brakes either. And putting an automatic in it ruins the car in my opinion. So basically all they did was take a Granturismo S Automatic, slap a bodykit on it, and bump the power a little. So weak.

          There are pros to living in Europe. -Better cars (Scirocco R, amongst many, many others) But one HUGE caveat: -Pricier gas. I'm not willing to buy an expensive car that burns gas, if gas is $7/gal (convert it yourself), no matter how rich I am.

        I always wonder just how significant are the USDM models are versus ROW. That said,I found autotrader ad for GT3 RS. Looks like it's got the sport bucket seats and scaffolding in the back. Plus Porsche NA site does offer either bucket seats or more comfortable sporty ones as no-cost option. Can anyone clear this up? The US laws concerning interior? Personally, I think this is more of a marketing gimmick thing than anything else. Maserati things that its US audience prefers air-con, sat-nav, proper seats (excluding ones in the back though), and no tubes in the backseat. I'd agree because if someone in US wanted an RS model they'd go for the Ferrari CS or GT2/3 RS. The Maserati GT Stradale I just cannot take seriously...it's a GT car, it can never be a track-day car. Also, it could be argued that if one has enough money to buy one of these fantastic machines then they could spend extra money putting in race seats along with a roll-cage, and strip out the other bits.

      Gorgeous, but it's a GT, not a track car. Some CF bits and 40hp isn't going to change that. It's not a lightweight to start out with, so useless. I'd take one as a daily driver, but not to whip the Ariel Atoms.

      Some sporty (non-blingy) wheels to fill the arches would help. I guess it's like saying a supermodel should upgrade from a 3 inch heel to a 4 inch. Picky. I know.
