2010 Chevrolet Volt MPV5 Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery

General Motors has submitted an application to trademark "Crossvolt" as a possible name for the bigger, MPV-style version of the Chevrolet Volt that's in the works. Chevrolet's patent application for the Crossvolt handle doesn't mean it's settled on a name for the family-friendly plug-in just yet. To keep us guessing, Chevrolet also has trademarks pending on the Chevrolet Amp and Chevrolet Strobe names as well.

Whatever the General decides to call its enlarged Volt, it will likely wind up looking similar to the Volt MPV5 Concept Chevrolet revealed at last year's Beijing Motor Show. Expect the eco-friendly soccer practice taxi to be in the same size range as the Chevrolet Orlando.

I wish Chevy or GM was more honest about this drivetrain. It's amazing and a great step forward but it is not an electric car if you have a gas tank, so stop with the electric word theme, please!

I say a crossover volt should be called either the Arc or ShortCircuit. Cheesy marketing FTW.

Other than the insane (lane-change & backup) blind-spot created by the D-pillar, I like the looks of this animal.

Stupid name aside, it looks way better than the sedan volt.

I don't think Chevrolet would need to trademark "Crossvolt". Nobody else would want to use such a stupid name.

I'd buy it if it looks similar to the concept (vs. the bait and switch on the original Volt show car) and is priced similarly to the Volt sedan. Cheaper would be better. I am looking forward to buying a car that I can burn nearly zero fuel for my daily commutes. Suck it OPEC!

If there's a dumber name, I haven't heard it yet. In all seriousness, this thing does look pretty good (GMC Granite, anyone?) but that is a really stupid name.

      What about the Converj?

What could it be? An electric CrossTour? A hybrid Aztek?

While Chevys at it, they need to trademark that cool design so BYD doesn't steal it after the crossvolt shows up in China.....Who an I kidding, soon as BYD can stuff enuff "D" sized Duracells in the chassis they'll create a volt knock-off.......

Because someone else will want to use that name? Really? They can have it. Yeah, this is my new Chevy Crossvolt. I'd be embarrassed to even say it.
