Audi S4 Avant spy shots – Click above for high-res image gallery

The piping-hot Audi RS4 may not be destined for consumption here in the United States, but its little brother, the S4, will continue to live on in America. Our spy photographers recently spotted this S4 prototype – in delicious Avant flavor – testing on the Nürburgring, showing off a newly facelifted front end.

Much like the A6 and A7, the revised S4 will wear Audi's reshaped grille with slanted upper corners – a design element that will also trickle down to the base A4 and the A5. Additionally, it appears that the front bumper has been tweaked, with larger lower air intakes that are reminiscent of what we see on the smaller TTS. Our spies also suggest that the S4's taillamps will receive a once-over, looking more akin to what's currently used on the A6/A7.

Mum's the word on powertrain upgrades, but we expect that Audi has a few tricks up its sleeve to keep the S4's performance prowess in check. Some minor tweaks to the car's cabin will likely be in store, as well. Look for the facelifted S4 to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

Wow...a Saab grille with Audi 4-rings on it.
      If it ain't a V8 it ain't squat!

I wish they'd reconsider and bring over the S4 wagon.
I totally agree! Bring it here already.

I have no desire in owning a Q5 or any other CUV for that matter, but this car is hot.

Me too. Would love to get a S4 Avant, fit it with a smaller blower bulley and new cat-back exhaust. Preferably in Nogaro Blue.

Can they please bring the S4 here in Avant form? I've always thought that fast wagons like the old Volvo Rs and the E63 Benz Wagon are very cool.

does anybody else see Passat headlights - looking beyond the LEDs inside?
Almost Scion-esque the way the fender comes up high on the lights

Jalopnik had a report saying that although this looked like an S4, it is actually the much hotter RS4 avant. hmm....

The Jalopnik story is about another prototype, see earlier Autoblog articles.

ah, right. On second glance this one doesn't have the flared wheel arches, probably should have noticed that. Thanks for the clarification

So is Audi annoyed that the taillights on the new U.S. Jetta look an awful lot like the ones on their A4?
        Same company. Cost savings?
And look for AoA to tell you that you can't have sexywagon, no sir, as Americans want the Q only.

I wouldn't care if it had Beetle headlights and tail lights, that is one awesome looking wagon that neither I nor my kids would ever be embarrassed to be seen in. If that drives anywhere near as well and as fast as it looks, it is truly North America's loss.

      S4 (or whatever) on the new A8 20's, OEM++++++++

It's nice but only die-hard fan boys would be able to tell the changes. Audi is seemingly using the same template for every car they make, merely adjusting the proportions and dimensions a bit.
