A photo purported to be a sneak peak at the facelifted 2012 Jaguar XF has hit the Web ahead of its New York Auto Show debut, and while there's precious little information about where the photo came from, if it's legit, this is exactly in line with what we're expecting the next XF to look like.

The sharper headlights on the car pictured above look consistent with the camouflaged versions seen in spy shots, so there's a solid chance this is the real deal. Underneath the XF's reshaped skin will be a new eight-speed automatic gearbox from ZF backing up a 2.2-liter diesel four-pot pulling down 187 hp and 332 pound-feet of torque. That same transmission will likely be fitted to the U.S.-spec models packing the 5.0-liter V8, possibly in both naturally aspirated and supercharged R guise. Thanks to everyone for the tips!

For me this is a BMW 3 series photoshop, the hood and the lights tell this story.

It fixed the one thing that I hated about the car. That circle in the middle of the headlights. Now this car is on my list of "next" cars.

Now lets talk about a hybrid that can run on battery power for 50 miles at speeds up to 85 MPH please and Jag will have my money next go around.

They're finally building the XF they should have built in the first place.

This is the 2012 XF... but such a disappointment that a media member would leak it although we had been asked repeatedly not to take photos and to respect the short embargo... some people can't effing wait.

The 8-speed tranny is on the 2.2 Diesel, that is the only confirmation, no word if the petrol V8s will have that tranny just yet.

the photo was taken at the Gaydon design and engineering facility during the 2 week media preview days...

Well you might be right MikeMachine, but I highly doubt it...usually the people that work at these facilities are used to operating around secret stuff and don't think would risk loosing their jobs. however i must admit i was surprised as to the lax security measures taken in respect to photography... they just asked that no one take pics, but in practice anyone could have pulled his phone out and snapped away...been to other R&D places where they confiscated the real cams, and put some tape on the phone cam lenses, and checked those on the way out...it was really serious security measures...

        MUCH better!

        This is a fake!

Take a look at the prototypes running around. http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2012-jaguar-xf-3/full/#4013509

The headlight cut lines are different, they sweep up higher and further back, and on the "real" XF, they are flush with the body, not inset as deeply as the blue one

KA - "It looks exactly like the original concept for the XF -- the C-XF."

That was exactly the first thought I had. I don't think this is new, but a recycled photo from several years ago.

BIG improvement. The headlights were the biggest negative on an otherwise great design.

Great news! I can't say, that I disliked the old (in fact it's standing in 1:24 in front of me), but this looks even better.

And a small diesel engine is maybe even better news for the European market. I hope, it'll be as efficient as the bigger brother.

Looks more inline with the new XJ as well so this is likely to be the real deal and looks very good.
      fantastic
That's so much closer to the original concept! Definitely a winner in my opinion.
The original CXF concept was designed after the initial XF had been completed and was ready for production. so in truth, it's the XF that inspired the concept, not the other way around.

This is why the XJ carried so much of the concept and many of the traits have made their way to the 2010 XF...

by the way this nugget of info is straight from Callum himself..

This looks a lot better than the monocle lights. Looks like the original concept, albeit less aggressive.
I see a lot of F10 BMW 5 series influence in the headlights, just without the eyelids.
