BMW Concept M5 – Click above to watch the video after the jump

Excited for the arrival of the new BMW M5? Well, you should be – it's the quintessential high-performance sport sedan... the outgoing model was a something approaching a civilized supercar with four doors. But the wait is just about over.

Set to debut at the Shanghai Motor Show and then in 2012 production spec at the Frankfurt Motor Show, we've already had the chance to see the Concept M5 in Munich for a brief preview and photo session to join the batch of studio shots provided by the manufacturer. But if that weren't enough, BMW has released video footage of the M5 show car doing the roundy-round and even driving about a bit. Follow the jump to check it out. Thanks to all for the tips!

I don't see a smile. If anything, it looks surprised. Now the Mazda3, has a smile!

Now that all the other car makers have had a chance to catch up to, or surpass the E60, I'm happy to see the M5 back to take its' crown again.

THis car sounds technically great....but my god does it look boring
        • 3 Years Ago
The original E28 M5 was very low key as was the E34 M5 & E39 M5. The E60 is where they really tried to distinguish it from the rest of the 5 range by giving it very aggressive valences and adding side vents and M5 badges everywhere.

I hope you have the option to not get the ugly black wheels. I prefer silver, but if it's black, it has to have a stainless lip to help it stand off from the black tire.

I'm not digging the new post Bangle looks. I think I prefer the e39.

I think that's part of the appeal though no? I mean it's supposed to be an everyday car you can take your kids to school in but still go out and play on the track.

I actually like the new 5 series compared to the old one. Then again, I never liked the way BMWs look, besides the M coupe, so I guess I might just have low expectations.

Boring? I think it looks awesome! It's not supposed to look crazy or have any fins/wings coming off of it. After all its a sedan....BUT FOR A SEDAN! My god does it ever look evil.

It looks like its going to kill you. But you would never see the turbo V8 coming. Might hear it though ;)

It's not really the low key nature of the car that bothers me. I tend to like that in most cars. Here though, it just seems like a big, fat, bloated sedan with a body package instead of a taut, teutonic BMW. But, too be fair, that's the way I feel about the regular new 5-series too

      =/

M3 in all it's variants is MUCH better looking.

Hell, so is the previous M5, and that's saying something...

I'm reserving my final judgment until I see it in a different color and without those fad black wheels... Also want to see some pictures of the interior... Hopefully it isn't quite as mundane as the rest of BMW's interior lineup. For now, I'm keeping my E55!!!

I used to like BMW and Im not saying it have bad engieenering BUT its so square...sorry but I don like this new M models

While its no E39 M5, I think its pretty decent. And the fact that a m/t will be offered again is a huge step in the right direction, IMO.

"This would be a perfect ultimate-luxury car, but fun to drive? Not really..."

ROFL. Yeah right, I don't see how one could not have a blast driving this car.
Yeah, it seems almost like the M3 is now what the E39 was, and this is essentially an M8 super-sedan. This would be a perfect ultimate-luxury car, but fun to drive? Not really...

^ I sell Porsches, that's how. After driving a 911 Turbo S, not much else feels fast; so the power is lost on me.
And I drive a Bugatti. The most fun I've ever had driving a car was an old Mini. Slower than whale turd but it put a huge grin on my face every time i drove it.

It's huge! By my estimates, it is as long as the current 750iL. I am in agreement with many who have posted here and elsewhere: the styling is quite bland.

Looks great can wait to final see the final specs on it. BMW did a great job on the new 5 styling.
