Spy Shots: Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Black Series – Click above for high-res image gallery

Spy photographers had previously captured images of what's tipped to be the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series sedan. The four-door muscle car could be seen traipsing down snowy roads. At the time, there were rumors that the two-door C63 AMG coupe could also be lured over to the dark side. Now our spy shooters have returned with photographic proof to back up that claim.

The hallmark of a Black Series Mercedes is two-fold in its simplicity: more power and better dynamics through things like a wider track and lightweight materials. The "standard" C63 AMG Coupe will pump out 451-horsepower, so we're hoping that the Sith Lord-edition will crest the 500-hp mark. Weight can be shed through the use of slimmer, grippier front seats and by ditching the back seat entirely. Who has time for back-seat passengers when you have the keys to a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Black Series anyway?

Dammit, Audi and BMW, work on some higher-power cars! 400hp was the benchmark, but now it seems that the M3 and (unfortunately missing) RS4 and RS5 need to put out 450-500hp.

I don't see why Mercedes is "holding back" with their 6.3 (actually 6.2) liter V8. It can pull out 563 hp, no problem in SLS trim, but in other trims does 400. Maybe this puts some sort of barrier between classes? I'd like to see the 5.5 biturbo have a presence in more models (in the CL it makes 660+ ft/lb torque with the performance package).

The 5.5 turbo is already taking over the 6.2 as the AMG 63 engine, and will replace it in all applications eventually. However, that big, thirsty, expensive, and decidedly Americanish 6.2 makes more sense for the hot rod c63 and the retro exotic SLS. It's good to see it still has a place in AMG's hooligan cars, despite how torquey and fuel efficient the 5.5 biturbo is. The 6.2 is AMG's only true ground up engine, and not a turbo'd or higher boost version of other Mercedes engines.

        The 6.2 may be AMG's only true ground-up V8, but what about V12s? There's the 6.0 twin-turbo (different from the 5.5 twin-turbo V12) and the 7.3L V12.

it's a good thing they taped over the side window frame. it would have totally given away it was a mercedes.

Cadillac better have all its duckies in a row with the ATS-V .

I'm not a fan of the kink in the bottom edge of the DLO (side window opening) at the rear. It doesn't day Mercedes to me and makes the side view of this car look like an Accord coupe or something. They never used to do that kink before, why now?

"Now are spy shooters have returned with photographic proof to back up that claim." I think jeff mean "pronographic proof" because I mussed myself looking at those pics, and I don't even generally like coupes!

This could be the best looking Black Series yet, IMO.

      yeah i'd hit it

Stock C63 whoops the M3's butt as it is! AMG performance package and now the black series??... It's not even fair!

The CLK Black didnt have upgrades to its engine. Just suspension, beefier rear diff, rear-seat-delete and the styling upgrades.

Which leads us to believe this will have the 481HP 6.2L. I still think an E-Coupe Black would look better.

I can't wait to see one on the road!

The only problem is going to be the price. Paying well over $100k for a C-class is a hard pill to swallow.

What is going on recently with the German and Japanese designers. Are they are rooting around on the floor of the rain forests looking for the weirdest, most outlandish beetle or bug and then scuttling back to their offices to produce designs like this one. Nutso.

those flared fenders are just what C-coupe needed. this thing is going to kickass!
