2012 Audi Q3 renderings – Click above for high-res image gallery

Audi has confirmed that its 2012 Q3 small crossover will receive its worldwide unveiling at the Shanghai Motor Show later this month. Before the Q3 debuts in the metal, Audi has released a series of sketches hinting what we can expect in a few weeks time.

When the production Q3 debuts it will sit on Volkswagen Tiguan underpinnings, but will be considerably more shapely than its less costly cousin. If these sketches are to be believed, the Q3 owes a little somethin' somethin' to Audi's Cross Coupe Quattro concept shown in Shanghai back in 2007.

The Tiguan's engines and transmissions should carryover into the Q3, which means a turbo four producing around 200 horsepower with a diesel option for Europe.

But if you option up a Tiguan fully you are already in the neighborhood of a base Q5, so I don't see the case for a Q3 if it prices say $2-$3k over similar Tiguan...unless Audi is going to raise prices on the Q5. Seeing how blatantly BMW has gotten away with it (steep import prices from South Carolina and all) maybe they feel emboldened to do that....

      I don't get your comment - really

The angular slots/lights, the ground clearance, rake, proportions?

. . . if it is based on the Tiguan slotted as 3 class, would this make it a German Eagle (AMC)?

For some reason the rear fascia reminds me of Ironman's helmet.

Because they want to get more mileage out of the Tiguan underpinnings. That's the reason.

I can't stand how Audi is creating the same safe/ lazy designs across their line-up. Seriously can anybody tell the difference?

There's design and then there's Xerox machine with a zoom button.

Audi wraps them all in the same chocolate, but some of them have more nuts and caramel inside. Seriously, I agree with you-- stylistic inbreeding should be discouraged within automobile brands. If the design language takes a downturn (looking at you, Acura), the whole lineup might suffer.

I think that's the double-edged sword of Audi design - no-frills, understated boldness, strong family genes . .
but, it can appear to that their designs may seem to chronicle the same vehicle at different stages of its life (age in human terms), as opposed to having brothers / sisters in a diverse family.

I like Audi design, but a good part of it is because I don't like some of what BMW, MB designs say and the influence of some of the people generally driving them (no offense, but sweet lease offers in America dilute the target. It's anyone's personal decision how to spend their money but I feel if you drive a "luxury" vehicle, you can't be living paycheck to paycheck to make care payments.)
There are times that I wish there was a bit more edge in some models - particularly the S5.

Well, there's not much about the design we didn't know about already. Surprise, it looks like an audi.

Not sure why they're not going to sell it here in the US. My fiancee loves the idea of it and the premium cost makes more sense than the Tiguan's inflated price (especially if you want leather etc). I'm guessing it wouldn't be profitable enough.
