Autoblog Podcast #224 is here. It's staffed this week by stalwarts Chris Shunk, Zach Bowman and Dan Roth. We talk about Top Gear and its ongoing fight with Tesla Motors, Volkswagen's decision to unveil the latest Beetle with MTV as a partner, the new BMW M5 Concept headed for Shanghai, Bugatti saying "go" to the Galibier and the possibility of a Hemi-powered Jeep Wrangler. Your feedback in our Q&A module winds us up, and we've embedded that in the post below, as well. Thanks for listening, we'll see you next week!

I think I read that one of the reasons Tesla is suing is because the episode is still being shown. I get a hit nearly every week when I search my guide for "Tesla". The entire show was biased against battery vehicles, and of course it's okay for them to express their opinion if that's what it is. But they then went beyond that, and from appearances scripted the show to use the Tesla to express their point irrespective of fact. As much as it is claimed that Top Gear is entertainment, it also has strong elements of an automotive review show. It needs to be responsible in that regard, just as you guys attempt to be.

I doubt that anyone here has actually driven "pure" electric cars. I have, and even had time with the Telsa's at the 2011 CES show. What a sad kit "car" it is. After watching the video again, it's plain to anyone that it's little more than a fragile toy. There was no bias ... the video spoke for itself. Telsa can't even build the whole car. The motor overheated. The batteries ran out of juice. It takes 16 hours to charge. The cheap eco-tires. Too heavy. Where is the bias? Sixteen hours (or even a half an hour) is too long to be practical. Having had three Prius(es), it's obvious that this is a "not-ready-for-primetime" car .... they should have developed a hybrid. The GM EV-1 was a far superior car to the Tesla by a huge margin. I'm amazed that Tesla has gone backwards in design, not forward. The build quality of the EV-1 was far superior to the Tesla too. If the EV-1 had modern batteries, it may have been the first usable pure electric car. It also had a "wow" factor (even for petrolheads) that just isn't there with the Tesla. Electric cars as sports cars are just silly and only someone who lacks automotive knowledge could disagree. My 45+ year old Shelby Cobra will suck the headlights out of the Tesla, out corner it, out break it and actually not break .... and allow me to drive it withour fear of running out of gas for over 250 miles (and can be refueled in less than FIVE minutes) as fast as I want. Again .... this is a 45+ year old car. Tesla is a company that just needs to go away and start over, and stop blaming Top Gear for exposing all their bull***t.

cliche ignorant car guys. simpleminded praise of V8 and no understanding of the significance of spouting ignorance to the masses (top gear). the world is not static guys. things actually matter

care to elaborate? Are you talking about our praise for the M5's new V8, or our take that Top Gear is entertainment first, anything else second?

Is this directed at us, or Top Gear, or both? Just want to know, I suppose.
