Zero Motorcycles offers an entire lineup of electric bikes that are quietly taking to city streets and dirt trails; and by quietly, we mean without the head-turning howl of a Harley. Bradley takes a turn on one of these light-weight, emissions-free cycles and finds that engine noise isn't everything when it comes to enjoying the ride.

Ed. The bikes range from $7,995.00 to $10,495.00 base MSRP.

      To those that use "noise is a safety factor"-- I don't agree. Now don't go nuts on me, I own a harley Low Rider and first thing I did was change from stock pipes to a 2-in-1 Vance Hinse pipe - for looks. My complaint with the noise/safety factor is I've not heard an ambulance with sirens (a safety/attention getting device) wailing until it was dangerously close to me. I've had more near-misses on the Harley than any of my other bikes (Yamaha's & Kawasaki's). In addition, the noise factor is not the best thing to rely on when riding; give me good old-fashioned defensive safe driving/riding practices. As for the electric bike, I don't see it being a big deal. Just another choice available. Personally, I like the sound of a bike as long as it is not EXTREMELY LOUD. Loud bikes are more of an irritant to those who hate bikes anyway.

        @Tammie
        My name is T i m . I ride a Kawasaki L T D 1100 . I do not like any more NOISE in my life , than I alredy have . The Harley was tuned , to be street legal with OPEN PIPES , for performance reasons . Adding mufflers was an unneccesary expense and also made the bike heavier . ....When I open my LTD for performance , OTHER DRIVERS WILL NOT RIDE BESIDE ME . SAME AS WITH HONDA CARS WITH TUNED EXHAUST . I will not sit at red light beside one .....THEY KNOW IT . They are OBNOXIOUS , ON PURPOSE . My dogs HATE MOTORCYCLE NOISE .... The Harley exhaust DOES help keep other drivers away from you . Electric motorcycles have been here from the beginning . TAKES F O R E V E R , to get up speed . They used to be called M O P E D . Peddal a bycycle with electric motor attached , then coast. Electric motor also runs a head/light tail light . SELF CONTAINED MINI GENERATOR . ....tbbikerdad .........

      This will never fly , just like the volt No one will want this junk Hey Tammie your vance and hines pipes are just a lot of noise , dyna that bike guess what your performance just dropped off I have screaming eagles on mine quite a performance advantage with out the noise level
      • 4 Years Ago
      Bad, Bad idea. If they don't make noise, no one will know they are there. Just gives the people hitting them another excuse - never saw, never heard.

      I'm not sure I would buy a motorcycle that can't be heard by other motorists. I have screaming eagles on my Harley so motorists can hear me coming. It is safer for me. I am a very cautious motorcyclist but California drivers still amaze and frighten me how dangerous they are around motorcycles.

      We used to call those things motor scooters. Don't get them confused with macho MOTORCYCLES.

          Go to WarriorsWatch.org. We are a national organization of patriotic volunteers that provide welcome home escorts to the members of America's Armed Forces. We also stand flag lines at funerals of fallen heroes who served our country and then do the funeral escort. We also provide comfort to the families of service members and help with their requests.

      They compared the size of this thing to a Kawasaki GSXR. Really? Last time I checked, GSXR was made by Suzuki.

      why are they even producing these toys? There is oil and always will be oil to run gasoline engines. The core of the earth produces it. duh? Why are they worried about global warming, etc? Seasons will come and seasons will go until the end of the world. That's what the book says?

        "The core of the earth produces it. duh? " Absolutely hilarious post: great sense of humor IF you aren't serious, and you'd be good for giggles if you are. HOWEVER, everyone knows that the Earth is hollow and full of hamsters; which is why it spins.

        I cant tell if your full of %$#@ or serious? Although i believe global warming is REALLY a cycle of earths life. I know how oil was made and also know it wont last forever. BUT electric ANYTHING is NOT saving the planet. We in the USA burn coal to make over 50%of our electricty. So its bull$h!t to believe electric anything is saving mother earth. And DONT get me started on morons in hybrids THINKING by buying a couple less gallons of gas there saving the planet. Morons ever consider your carbon foot print with the batteries and the fact they have to be replaced and disposed of???? Your real foot print is almost as bad as a Hummer!!!! Yup hybrids for morons who really cant think but want to "think" there doing there part. WHATEVER
