2012 Audi A7 - Click above for high-res image gallery

The 2012 A7 five-door is drop-dead gorgeous and headed to an Audi dealer near you in the next month. Interested? You're going to have to shell out $59,250 (*$60,125 including $875 in destination charges) if you want to pick up the base Premium model. That puts the A7 right in the middle pricing-wise between the $45,200 A6 and the $78,050 A8.

Spending $60k on the coupe-like sedan will net you Audi's 310-horsepower, 3.0L TFSI V6 mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Also standard is Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive system with a rear-biased 40/60 power split. Jump up to the Premium Plus model and you're looking at a base price of $62,810 ($63,685 with destination). The Plus variant adds Audi Connect plus MMI Navigation Plus with MMI Touch controls.

The top-of-the-line Prestige model starts at $65,580 ($66,455 with destination), which adds four-zone climate control, full-time LED headlamps, 12-way power front seats with ventilation and a Bose sound system. The A7 configurator, which is live on Audi's sales site, shows that the A7 can be optioned out to $80,000 or more with options like a $5,900 Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System, $1,500 20-inch Sport package and $5,800 innovation package that includes adaptive cruise control, night vision and blind spot protection. All models feature the supercharged 3.0-liter V6.

The green house is almost majestic,

seeing this car in person is something else, some one should give Walter deSilva some kind of award

      the supercharged V6 is good.

I would have hoped that they would have given an optional V8 version. Maybe that'll come with the S7 or a twin-turbo V8 for the RS7. Not quite sure abt the non availability of the V8..cause some people buying these cars like to have that option atleast in the US..although in other countries bigger caRS (S CLASS - A8 are sold with V6 versions too)

I didn't realize we were getting the A7. I'm a huge Audi fan, but I'd rather have any other Audi than this one. I don't see the "drop dead gorgeous" body in any of those shots. I find it awkward, which is a new feeling for me and Audis. Not feeling it.

      Gorgeous car.

If you've not driven an Audi (or Porsche) equipped with this supercharged V-6, and you've never read any of the heaps of praise it has received, then know this: It's at awesome motor, with power everywhere in the rev band. 0-60 in 5.5 (or less) is pretty quick.

Want faster? Wait for the 450+hp S7 that's also on its way....

Seen the commercial being shot in downtown LA yesterday, the car is absolutely gorgeous and looks even better in motion..

      Quite a stunner indeed.

        No V8. No Sale.
Agreed. Needs more power though. Too bad DCT isn't even an option too, though maybe the target audience would've gotten confused between two "automatic" transmissions.

Yeah, but can the windshield stop a 2x4?? If so, I'm in.
No TDI clean diesel with DSG tranny...NO sale!
When will we in America be treated to the diesel options afforded the rest of the civilized world? Audi, high time you give USA consumers the same selection courtesy you give OTHER nations. Make mine TDI or KEEP them all!

We got one in at work today, way sweet. The seats look like baseball gloves (but nice). Ours was $74,000 though.

Looking at pics of the A7 I can't see how this being a hatchback actually provides any additional space. The trunk space available looks like it could've all been just as easily available with a traditional trunk -- what am I missing? I guess having the whole rear end lift up would make loading easier, but I thought hatches are supposed to provide a lot more storage. Can anyone who has seen this in person comment?
Did you miss the new trend? It's called "buying uglier and less practical versions of existing cars for more money". See 5-series GT, this, oh and every other sedan-based semi-fastback with silhouettes like a pooping dog...
This looks like the Porsche Panamera wishes it could, but the Porsche probably drives like this Audi dreams of. VWAG has to get this right next time around...
I saw one of the $80,000 ones yesterday on a dealer's lot--I think I could skip most or all of the options and still be perfectly happy, but the whole segment is about wretched excess now that even econocars have as standard equipment everything that was exclusive to luxury cars a decade or so ago. Strangely, that extra $20K in options still doesn't seem to net you a wiper on the hatch's backlight--to think people were criticizing the $41K Chevy Volt for a similar lack. But why be practical when you can listen to your $6000 B&O radio instead?

Just wait two years and it will drop 50% depreciation.
        Pick up a 25-30K mile A7 for under $40K.

This thing ranks with ugly same as the Pontiac Aztek.
