1970 Lancia Stratos HF Zero from the Bertone Museum – Click above for high-res image gallery

You can't make an omelet, or so the saying goes, without breaking some eggs. So while it's unfortunate that the restructuring at Bertone means the dissolution of its museum collection, it also means that its contents are going up for auction. And they'll be crossing the block at no less fitting a location than Villa d'Este.

Those in the know will recognize Villa d'Este for the Concorso d'Eleganza held there every year, where the most gorgeous and rare of classic cars mingle with the finest concept cars unveiled throughout the year. This year's concours will mark the first time that RM Auctions will be holding an event at the open-air show on picturesque Lake Como, and in addition to the myriad unspeakably beautiful classics on the docket, RM has just announced the consignment of six concept cars from the Bertone Museum, each one-of-a-kind in its own right and available to collectors for the first time.

The consignment includes the 1967 Lamborghini Marzal, 1970 Lancia Stratos HF Zero, 1963 Chevrolet Testudo, 1974 Lamborghini Bravo, 1980 Lamborghini Athon and 1978 Lancia Sibilo. Each was a seminal design for Bertone, and each is expected to fetch well into the six and even seven figures. The Marzal, particularly, which was driven by Prince Ranier and Princess Grace at the start of 1967 Monaco Grand Prix, and the Stratos, the first prototype for the iconic supercar rally machine of the same name, are expected to sell for between €1,000,000 and €1,800,000... that's as much as $2.5 million apiece in equivalent American funds.

Have a look at the collection (sans the Lancia Siblio, images for which are en route) in the high-resolution image gallery below, and follow the jump for the full details in the press release. Hat tip to Sea Urchin!

        • 3 Years Ago
        yup me too can't open the next pics
        • 3 Years Ago
        Yeah, and it took a minute for the third to show up.

        Autoblog hurry up and fix this, some of these pics are going to be part of my background slideshow

        Gallery doesn't work here, either - tried in FireFox and Chrome.
        • 3 Years Ago
        Yeah, it happens all the f-ing time. It's come to the point where I don't even bother going to the galleries anymore.
        • 3 Years Ago
        Yeah, me too..er, five.

        @Spytap:
        It's not THAT frequent anymore. It used to happen more often right after Autoblog updated their format. I still think Autoblog has one of the best galleries out there (although I do wish the red box outlining the selected thumbnail was a bit easier to see). If you think this is bad, try to view a gallery on the Gawker network like at Jalopnik! I think their interface is clasified as cruel and unusual punishment in 4 states!

        @Xa

        I have the add-on for "awesome" and still fails to load.
        • 3 Years Ago
        your computers probably can't handle the awesome.
        • 3 Years Ago
        Still can't see the images aside from 1 and 3! I give up!
        • 3 Years Ago
        Yup.

        I despise the Autoblog gallery. It's overly complicated, always quite slow, and the algorithm for shrinking pictures pixelates them heavily - the default smaller size is always quite jagged.

        At least we got the "back to the post" link a few years back. That always killed me.

      Love the Lancia Stratos, I had one growing up, matchbox of course.

      Speaking of rare cars, growing up I also had a matchbox Ferrari semi tractor, I have since misplaced it.I am trying to find a picture or any information on the Ferrari semi tractor, but can't seem to locate any. Any ideas if it was ever a "real" vehicle or was it just the imagination of the matchbox designers? I also remember reading about it in "Science et Vie"
      Any help in locating information about the Ferrari semi tractor would be appreciated.

      I have lusted in my heart for the Stratos HF Zero for as long as I can remember,
      AAMOF, I had a picture of it as the wall paper on my first Windows-based PC back in 1990.

      Anyone want to co-sign a loan for €1.8 Million for me? Anyone?

      I'll let you sit in it

      Wait..... no I wont!!!!
      • 3 Years Ago
      I had a Marzal as a kid. It was dark red metallic with yellow glass. I left it parked in my parents house. I'd be willing to auction it. Not sure what it'd go for being that its so old and built by Matchbox.

        I KNEW I had seen these things before. I kept looking at the Lambo and thinking I had seen it before, and then it dawned on me that I had seen them in my Hot Wheels collection. I swear, I also had that Lancia in the collection.

        Thanks, mom, for selling/giving away my collection. I could have made a fortune on eBay! Oh, who am I kidding. I could never had gotten rid of that collection.
