With Penske walking away from its distribution rights, management, sales and marketing duties for Smart and Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) stepping in to peddle the pint-sized city cars, the German automaker has announced that a change atop Smart USA is coming.
Effective May 1st, Tracey Matura will take over the role of general manager for Smart USA. Matura started her career with MBUSA as corporate counsel and was promoted to general counsel in 2000. She has held her current post of general manager of strategic retail development since 2006. In her new role as general manager of Smart USA, Matura handle distribution, sales and marketing activities here in the States, while reporting to vice president of sales Michael Slagter. Matura will replace Smart USA's current president, Jill Lajdziak, who will remain with Penske Automotive.
