Saab 9-3 Convertible spy shots – Click above for high-res image gallery

is finally starting to roll out its newest products, including the 9-5 sedan and the new-for-2011 9-4X crossover, but the Swedish automaker has yet to kick sales into high gear. That could change when next generation of the brand's highest volume model, the 9-3, hits the market. Despite a refresh for 2011, Saab's entry-level sedan will receive big changes for 2012, including a completely retooled chassis that our latest spy shots show could be wider than the current model.

In the past, the 9-3 has been available as a wagon, sedan and convertible, which no doubt broadens its appeal. These latest spy shots are of a current 9-3 Convertible, with some ill-fitting front fender cladding and wider exhaust outlets showing that the new 9-3 will be a bit wider than the current model. See what our intrepid photographers spied in the high-res image gallery below.

Looks like a 10 year old Saab.

      Boring cars for boring people.

Does anyone know if those style tail lights are available on the sedan? I wouldnt mind getting them for my 93.

I believe the current generation taillights (they look very similar to the above taillights) should fit perfectly all the way back to the 2003 9-3 models. They are quite pricey if I recall.

The only problem you might have is that the new taillights do not have the red reflectors so I don't know if it's entirely legal.

Do some people not READ the article? it's NOT the next gen car! It's a "test mule" using the current gen likely to test new drivetrain/chassis/etc. And, as someone else noted, the article is not correct as the new gen will not be out as a 2012, it will debut in 2012 as a 2013 model.

      Looks like the current line.

I think you got it wrong Autoblog. The my 2012 convertible has already been shown, see your own article for reference. ( http://www.autoblog.com/2011/02/23/saab-9-3-convertible-independence-edition-officially-revealed-pr/ ) The car shown here is probably a mule for the next gen, all new 9-3 or perhaps has something to do with electricity or eAWD. Cheers from sunny Trollhättan :)

Thinking this must be a drive train mule. Possibly a new AWD system or a next generation of their XWD. That would explain the slightly wider track and the wheel arches. Everything else looks the same which is why again I believe its a drive train mule.

this is a mule for the next gen people. note the wider chasis, exhaust
pipes pushed to the sides, etc. there have been a lot of sightings of
      saab mules running around.
