2011 Hennessey Venom GT in red – Click above for high-res image gallery

We've seen the silver-colored Hennessey Venom GT chassis number 01 out running about, and now, the tuning company has decided to show off its bright red chassis number 03. The 1,200-horsepower supercar can ran from 0-60 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds and has an estimated top speed of 267 mph.

We've stared at it, heard it, seen it belch fire on the dyno, Jay Leno's had his time with it and now we say enough is enough. We're more than ready for our test drive, and while the red paint job of this latest build is indeed sexy, we'd gladly drive one in beige if it meant some seat time was in order.

Click through the gallery below to see the 2011 Hennessey Venom GT looking resplendent in its shiny new red coat of paint.

        @ Elmo

        A fool and his money are soon parted.

        You'd have to be an idiot to buy one of these with other options in this price range. Don't forget those other options also don't look like a kit car, and have heritage and respect. Hennessey, yeah, there isn't a lot of respect for this guy or his company.

        This thing is pure garbage for the money, the Venom is worth $300,000K absolute TOPS.

      Lets just all agree to disagree on some matters, ok folks?! Arguing about whose opinion is more right than others is childish any way you look at it. Lets celebrate the fact that we all have different opinions, because if we all agreed on everything, the world would be a boring place!

      Regarding the Venom GT... I agree that its overpriced. Insanely so. But it still is a wicked performing beast, no matter which way you look at it. To be honest, I absolutely love the Exige, and seeing a stretched and widened one with a tt V8 stuck in it gives me heart palpitations.

      What happened to car #02? Stolen engine stuck in customs still?
      • 3 Years Ago
      Interesting that the "studio" shots have a modified front end rendering with no turn signals (the inboard light pods) and somewhat smoother lines. Still, as a former owner of a red Elise, all I can think of is, well, MY car. This doesn't evoke anything different, which is a shame for the price.

      It was funny when they fired it up on Jay Leno's Garage, it was so anticlimactic. Jay was like 'umm.. ok'.

      @Rich4rdee, it s not 276mhrs,but 267mhrs.same time,have you a video prouve the sport Veyron have world record? no , why?have a good day.
        • 3 Years Ago
        Even though you agreed with me and do like this car unlike every other person on this article, I'm going to have to prove you wrong.

        There's a segment on Top Gear where James May takes the car up to 258mph, then after that, they show the video of the Bugatti test driver taking the car to the 267mph top speed. There is also in-car footage of the record breaking run all over the net. There's also pictures of Bugatti executives holding a Guiness Book of World Records plaque in front of the orange and black carbon Veyron SS.

      Its just a long wheel base Elise with a huge twin turbo V8. Simple.
      • 3 Years Ago
      Looks like a giant Lotus Elise/Exige !!!
        • 3 Years Ago
        I may give him kudos for the attempt at making an exotic, but that's about it. Even though there's a limited production run of only 29 planned, this car is way too overpriced for what you get. Nice try, but I'll pass on the Franken-Lotus.
        • 3 Years Ago
        That's because it essentially is.

      • 3 Years Ago
      Yea, they arent hiding that its a based on an Exige, but they arent hiding the price either.
      Its a stretched $60,000 car, looks identical to said stretched $60,000 car, has an interior like a $60,000 car... for $800,000?
      Until an independent source tests those numbers, being RWD, I call BS.
      Sorry, but at this price look at a Pagani Zonda if you want to see fit and finish...

        @Elmo

        "Harnessing this power is a chassis that is a far cry from the Lotus Elise from which it's derived."

        "Aside from reusing the windshield, doors, roof, floor, dash and various trim components..."

        You could actually say it is based on an Exige so tico loco is not wrong in saying that. The fact that it uses Exige styling and quite a few factory Lotus parts give people the impression that it's just a stretched Lotus with a Corvette engine. But you getting bent out of shape and resorting to name calling just because someone doesn't agree with your opinion on a car none of use will ever own is ridiculous.

        @cromweld

        Are you serious? You can't be. Because that was too stupid of a comment for it to be serious.

        I shall post this link again...
        http://www.delta-motorsport.com/project08.htm

        Delta Motorsport has absolutely no relation to Hennessey other than providing them this kit for them to build this car upon.
        • 3 Years Ago
        @Elmo, just because someone says something doesn't make it true. Of course they don't want you to think it looks like an Exige... They are asking $800,000 for it, so they have to make you think you are getting something else!!! Do you work for this company or something... You seem to have a hard-on for trying to cover for this company!!!
        • 3 Years Ago
        @Rob

        You seem to be confused between the words "derived" and "based on". Also, you seem to think that just because it has parts (not the chassis) from an Exige, it means it's a stretched Exige.

        By the way, have you ever thought about the torque this thing puts out? When you stretch a car, the chassis loses it's strength. Welds become weak points where the car could break in half at high speeds, or possibly a hard launch. Being 2,300lbs, I find it very had to believe that they stretched an Elise chassis and added bracing. Adding that bracing, especially when the Elise/Exige chassis is so compact, would add loads of weight to the car, rendering it impossible for it to be to THAT light.
        • 3 Years Ago
        Wrong...
        http://www.delta-motorsport.com/project08.htm

        You feel stupid now, huh?

        Why don't people research anymore? It's like they want to look like an idiot.
        • 3 Years Ago
        @ jay_dwight

        My thoughts exactly. For $800,000+ I want something a little more luxurious.

        In this price range there are a good amount of BEAUTIFULLY engineered vehicles that have performance, looks, AND an interior. You mentioned a Pagani? Perfect. How about we throw a CCX in there and maybe even a used Veyron. All stupid fast, all have a beautiful interior.

        @Elmo

        You need to learn how to read a little bit better.

        "....The fact that it uses Exige styling and quite a few factory Lotus parts give people the impression that it's just a stretched Lotus with a Corvette engine."

        Where in this does it say i said it's a stretched Lotus?

        I know what went into this car. I know it's based on an Exige, you can see that by looking at the car. I know it has a Corvette derived engine. I know it has a completely new chassis and suspension to cope with it's power. I know it has a mostly new carbon fiber body. But fact is it also uses a lot of stock Lotus parts in which some are listed on the fabricators webiste you constantly post.

        I do know the difference between derived and based on.

        As for your little lecture on welding and chassis'...LOLZ. Anyone taking welding 101 knows that.
      • 3 Years Ago
      I did a lot of reading on the car and it's almost impossible to get the power down, unlike the bugatti. im not a bugatti fan but it is a much more driveable car. I love lotus but 1200 bhp and lotus do not fit in the same sentence.
