Next-generation Lexus GS spy shots – Click above for high-res image gallery

A couple weeks back, we told you that Toyota had big plans for the New York Auto Show. We heard that one of the vehicles scheduled to make an appearance was the totally redesigned Lexus GS, but what we're going to get instead is the LF-Gh hybrid concept. Lexus tells us that the concept "will present a glimpse into the future of Lexus design."

We're all for a concept car that reveals future styling direction, but we were really hoping to see a production a replacement for the aging sport sedan. Thankfully, our sources tell us that the LF-Gh and the next-generation GS should be one and the same, though we're certain the concept car will feature styling cues (read: massive wheels, ridiculous interior, etc.) that won't make it anywhere near production.

Lexus will officially unveil the LF-Gh on the evening of April 19, and you can expect a full report right here on Autoblog within minutes of the unveiling.

To my eyes, the GS still looks remarkably handsome for its age

The current gen GS is still a handsome looking. Hopefully, the new design language is even better.

are those spy shots of the next GS or old spy shots of the current GS? I don't see any difference at all.

        Spy shots of a mule.

The seats in this mule seem reminiscent of the new CT seat/head restraint design.

Yes! Hopefully they show more than a "concept car" If this car is going to be re-desing for 2012.
The GS model is on a very competitive market - such as the 5-series - E-class - Infiniti - ect, ect.
I talk to one of the Lexus rep. in a ride and drive and he said this... This time around Lexus will put the GS model to compete with other for the first time.. there will be a dramatic change on the car.

I'm one of the few people who thinks the current GS looks nice, so it'll be interesting to see how they've finessed the L-Finesse design language/theme.

I always liked the IS, both generations have their charms. As much as I've enjoyed those, I've disliked the GS. The profile just comes off as very overweight and chunky. It's all that visual mass from the slab sides, bloopy rear greenhouse (especially the first gen GS), and thick C-pillar with the stubby rear end. I've also driven both back-to-back and the handling of the GS is quite numb in comparison. Things are muted and slow to respond in the GS--for a RWD sport sedan anyway. The GS has a disease, and the only cure is more cowbell--I mean, more IS. I hope to see something that's not as easily lost between its smaller sibling and the LS. The next GS has the potential to be a really cool sedan, maybe even 4-door-coupe.
