McLaren F1 vs MP4-12C - Click above to watch video after the jump

Awesome. Guttural. Vicious. Even though the youngest of the 100 McLaren F1 models produced was built 13 years ago, the machine still conjures some of the very best words the English language has to offer polite society. It was only a matter of time before someone lined up the old king of the roost against the new McLaren MP4-12C to find out which is the better weapon for assaulting track records. Autocar has done exactly that, and it's been so kind as to work up an excellent video of the experience.

Which car comes out on top? We'd hate to spoil the fun by saying so here, but it's worth noting that McLaren didn't set out to build the MP4-12C to overtake the F1 in either brute strength or finesse. Instead, the newcomer lives in a category all its own. Hit the jump to take in the action for yourself.

whats said is how this isnt going to break any records... :( ooh and way to have a far comparison comparing a road car and a race car for the road, they are dumb...

nothin' special about the overpriced, overhyped F1, it's too delicate and undriveable, you strap a big engine to a civic, you'll go just as fast. Like others have said though, the new one is just as good of a car for far less money, well done McLaren.

"nothin' special about the overpriced, overhyped F1"

A thousand years from now, the noise from that /facepalm will still be echoing...

I still want the McLaren F1, I don't care if it is 10 times more.

I would take the F1 any day over this new one.

And not because of some kind of love for classic cars. It truly is a better car in my opinion and probably was the pinnacle of car making. I would take the F1 over any veyron or similar.

@overvolting if the name of the game is to choose ONLY one dream car you might wanna rethink your choice. The car is so loud that you must wear ear protection while driving it. My point is that t's a hard car to own and drive...... (read - not easy to live with)
It's a track weapon. I think if I were choosing just one dream car I'd go with a drop top Audi R8. you can enjoy that car every day.

Agreed, although the MP4 looks great, the F1 looks beautiful in any angle. Just an awesome driving machine.

Can't wait for McLaren to make a GTR version of the 12C.

Looks like they're using the Top Gear test track...similar looking planes in the background. What do you guys think?
Yeah, at one point when they were heading towards what would normally be the test track's "Penultimate Corner" I got nervous because they were going way too fast. Then they just went straight.

to artandcolour2010, I think you are missing the point. This was never meant to succeed the F1, this is an entry level super car that was intended to compete with the Ferrari 458. Based on the info we have now, it is lighter, and has more power, and it also also costs less than the Ferrari. Subjectively speaking after reading the primers McLaren has released about it, I believe that it's more technologically advanced, and will have better handling than the Ferrari, based on the pictures I have seen the MP4-12C also sports a nicer interior. The point of this car is to be a stunning entry level super car that will sell in decent volume and make money, and honestly I feel McLaren nailed it, If you want a true successor to the F1, well you will just have to wait. McLaren hasn't been very coy about the fact that there are other cars in their product pipeline.

For now it will be interesting to see how this fares in the reviews against the 458, even more interesting considering recent allegations that Ferrari sends ringer cars out for review, typically one professionally tuned for handling at which ever track the comparison is set to take place at, and one with a built engine sporting a lot of extra horsepower. If you want to know more Google "Chris Harris Ferrari rant" I personally believe him, if for no better reason than the fact that back in the day all the Ford GT vs F430 comparison's didn't seem to add up based on the actual spec's for the cars.

No doubt about it. It's the TopGear test track.

Love the new car, but I still have a spot for the Orange Crush.

I'm actually interested to see the original road going version of the F1 vs the MP4-12C.

I'll take the "old man" because it reeks of testosterone......

The family genetics certainly are something for those two sisters!

The context just shows how lithe the elder sister really is, as the younger sister is slim herself, but the F1 is very petite.
