PickupTrucks.com details the 2012 Ram Cargo Van – Click above to watch the video after the jump

The 2012 Ram Cargo Van may be based on the more pedestrian Dodge Grand Caravan, but make no mistake, this van is ready to work. The minivan's seats have been removed, meaning there's 144 cubic feet of cargo space behind the front seats, and with tie-down hooks integrated into the flat load floor, the Cargo Van is capable of hauling up to 1,800 pounds.

Our friends at PickupTrucks.com were on hand at the NTEA Work Truck Show this week to see the 2012 Ram Cargo Van make its official debut. Senior editor Mike Levine gets in front of the video camera to show us the C/V's features, so follow the jump to get an up-close look at Chrysler's new work van.

i just dont understand why Dodge/Chrysler insist on making vans that look like they came from the 1990s....

From '84-'88, Dodge the Mini Ram van. It was a caravan with panels on the side. Not the first time they tried to make a minivan into a commercial vehicle. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, it's just the first time Chrysler has done it.

" on the outside it's got blocked out windows for privacy".... I'm sorry for watching too many cop shows but that never sounds good... especially in a "cargo van"

Is "breaks down" really the best choice of words?

If Chrysler were smart they target this to the Post Office with a 4 cylinder. The LLV's are >20 years old . The Transit Connect is the only thing close,Canada Post Office is getting those.

They've really missed the boat on making this a great combo van. Keep the back folding bench and they'd have a winner.... not a Charlie Sheen winner but a real one.

But it just doesn't have the same pizaz as a rusted out brown econoline. :/

I know looks don't matter in this segment, but it just seems so half-assed that the windows were merely covered up rather than Dodge/Ram just not cutting out the holes for the windows. It would just be more seamless that way.

Also, who else exactly is in the segment? He kept saying best in class for the segment, but what else is competing with this? If he's referring to the Ford Transit Connect, that one seems much smaller, no?
He was talking about Class 1 commercial vehicles. That would include the Transit Connect and compact pickups. I don't know about full size half ton pickups if they are still Clss 1 or Class 2.

Huh? They don't cut holes out for windows, they build bodies with openings for windows, bit of a diffrence actually.

Forget the R/T, this is the REAL "Man Van"

It's currently possible to order the Grand Caravan C/V without the rear interior trim ... checking off the "Interior Delete Group" subtracts $75 from the price. Getting rid of the side-curtain airbags is a $150 savings.

I would expect the same will be true of the Ram C/V.

This would be a good alternative for small business and major companies. I can't picture employees treating that nice interior nice though,

Owned and drove an original swb 1985 Mini Ram van (later sold as Caravan CV) for 4 years and 120000 miles and sold it to one of my employees who drove it another 10 years. 2.2 litre with VW-sourced manual 4 speed. Best vehicle I ever owned.

Yep and 283hp means you'll have no excuses as to why the delivery was late.

        @killuminati
It's only a matter of time before an enthusiast builds a Ram C/V SRT8. :-)
