The 2011 BMW 1M is a highly anticipated two-door said to be created to remind drivers of the 1988 M3. Though it weighs nearly 400 pounds more than the E30 M3, the new 1M does get 340 horsepower courtesy of a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. If those numbers are intriguing, you may want to head to BMW and see how much it will cost you to own one.

We tested out the configurator for ourselves, and our Alpine White 1M is going to add $53,735 to our AmEx balance. The wife may throw a fit, but we'll probably never see her again anyway... Time to start writing from the road. Thanks for the tip, Luis!

I believe that 335i would be much slower. ;)
"much slower" is relative here. According to the website there's a 0.6 second difference in the 0-60 time, but I think I will somehow manage with a time of 5.3 seconds.

This is a great car, but realistically I think I would rather have a 335i coupe which would be almost fully equipped at $54k (the same price for an almost fully equipped 1 series M).

Am I wrong in thinking Boss Mustang > 1 Series M coupe?
To be fair, they're really not competitors. But for that money I'd take the 'Stang too.

"The wife may throw a fit, but we'll probably never see her again anyway"

Whose wife? Are you all married to the same person? I suggest the writer take a writing class to learn how to properly form sentences

Welcome to blogging. Everything is "we". Its obnoxious.

BMWs are overpriced and ugly, so what else is new.
BMW pricing is a little out of hand, however the product is great and the DEMAND is there!
      Remember: supply and demand.
Stop buying if you want the prices to drop !

And yeah 135i over this anyday. Tuned, its the exact same thing.

Dang typo! I meant Singer 911, not "Stinger".

I have to say the 1M is a nice improvement styling-wise over the normal 1 Series (and I'm sure it's a great improvement performance-wise) but I've never liked the look of the 1 Series. It just looks a little "goofy" -- especially the "deer in headlights" headlamps. Not crazy about the rear either, and I think the 3 Series interior is far better functionally and visually.
Agreed. Wouldn't it have been cool if BMW had created a new form-factor for the 1-series instead of trying to make a miniature 3?

The 1 is ungainly. Period. I'm sure the M1 has plenty of scoot, but I'd frankly take a lower-spec 3.
Update on the headlights: Haven't checked them out since the 1 Series LCI, and they look a lot better than the first version. Still not crazy about the rear and interior though.

I wonder why they didn't mention anything about it being limited production on the 1M main page.
If you're gonna sell a kidney for this, why not toss in some blood or semen or something and get the M3...

I am from Australia, where an ex-demo 120i costs $50k.

      Bloody Hell!
Awesome car, but for that cost or less, you can pick up a nice e90 M3
      • 3 Years Ago
So in Canada you'd probably looking at $65-70K for this car. Are they insane?

IMO the 1 series is butt ugly (literally) and for BMW to charge what they do for the series is insane. Spend the extra dollars and get a 3 series.
