2013 Audi S6 spy shots – Click above for high-res image gallery

In addition to a hybrid version, Audi is giving its sleek new A6 the full S treatment. Our spy photographers recently snapped this completely undisguised prototype out testing in Germany, leading us to believe that the production car will likely debut in the not-too-distant future. Audi's usual S up-do is fully evident here, with the more aggressive front fascia, side sill extension and four exhaust tips out back all signaling a more sporting sedan.

The new S6 will likely ditch the current car's 5.2-liter V10 mill in favor of a turbocharged 4.0-liter V8. Since the S6 will compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and BMW M5, expect power output to be somewhere in the 500- to 550-horsepower range.

Last night I walked by the Audi showroom on 12th Avenue and 52nd st in New York City. I stopped in my tracks. The cars were gorgeous!! These photos do nothing for the new Audi cars. It looks like Audi has it over any other car now for sleek true elegance. No other car comes close. I cannot believe how bad the photos chosen here and aol article to show the car. You just cant see it. I saw it in white and every car in the showroom was drop dead gorgeous. Audi is the IT car. I dont know much about cars but from a design point this is it. Seems they solved all the visual issues and the car looks elegant and sturdy. This is the only car to buy if you have real taste

The front looks too overwrought in comparison to the rest of the car. It's almost like it's trying too hard to be "edgy". Audi should stick to something closer to it's current design language, this will not age well.

The current S6 has a 435 hp V10, 500~550 is quite a jump from that, If it really has that much power I will be impressed, and curious about the level of insanity the next RS6 will unleash.

Also is it just me or is anyone else not digging the way the lower air dam pushes out further than the headlights in the front 3/4 view that tags the article? The regular A6 doesn't look like that, I understand the need to suck in more air to feed more engine, so I will give it a pass, but I am really hoping that it's just a very awkward viewing angle.

This car is full of WIN. I don't care what the outside looks like if i was on the inside hanging with Audi's excellent interior with my foot on the accelerator.mashed to the floor....

Of course, after i come up with the $75K its gonna cost...

...actually come to think of it, if i could just drop $75k on a car this one would suddenly find itself low-man on the totem pole...

      Still a nice ride.

Yes, Its like a Volkswagen with funny lights and a bad nose job

It could be the booze talking, but I detect a hint of Chrysler's new front end. Something about the chrome grill outline on black . . .

Nice, but can't wait to drool over the RS6 and its flared fenders.

Looks like a bored, droopy dog. People who buy a mid-range performance model don't want to be bored and droopy.

Autoblog, sometimes you amaze me. The specs for the S6 were already leaked: http://www.audiboost.com/content.php?840-Audi-4.0-turbo-V8-info-confirmed-from-Russian-leak-A8-S8-S7-and-S6-to-get-turbo-V8-power

Secondly, the S6 will be competing with the 550i not the M5. The RS6 will be competing with the M5. Who writes this stuff?
I dont think the S6 will compete with E63 or the M5, thats for the RS6.
S6 is just below them rs6 usually targets just above them.
I'm pretty sure if you put some 10W-KHHHHHH oil in it, it will destroy the m5, e63, and XF-R. I think it could even take on a Gallardo. Especially if its driven by a Saudi

and so on. Why is that so hard for some?
        A6- E Classe- 5 Series
        S6- 550i
        RS6- E63 AMG- M5

I agree!!! The author of the article hasn't noticed that the Audi lineup is becoming more like BMW's and MB's with the levels being A (base), S (more powerful mid-range), and RS (top level sport models).

@flashpoint, audis reliability is quite good. All manufacturers have improved in that department. Have you owned/driven an Audi? They're enjoyable to own and drive. Even in the podcast the AB crew have really enjoyed the Audis.

I agree that logically, it should be:

        A6, E350, 535
        S6, E550, 550
        RS6, E63, M5

This gels nicely with how the A4/A5, S4/S5, {RS4}/RS5 are positioned against the respecitve competiors - the 3 series and C class - today.

The thing is, are we sure that there will be no A6 with a V8 anymore? Is this confirmed by Audi, or at the very least a strong liklihood? Because, remember, in past years we've typically had an A6 with basically the same V8 as the A8, while the S6 had an even more powerful V8 or, most recently, a V10. Granted, even if there is an A6 V8, it doens't mean that the S6 must meet the performance of an M5 or E63. Instead it can come in somewhere below those cars (and at a lower pricepoint) while the RS6 can go the full way. However, yeah, I hope Audi does ditch the A6 V8 and just offers the S6 with the V8 instead. I'm just not sure they'll do that yet - they always seem to come up just short of making sense as far as simplifying their product lineup.

Oh, and yeah, there's no way the S6 will have 500hp. There's going to be at least two versions of the new 4L turbo V8, similar to how BMW has two versions of their 4.4L V8 turbo, and Mercedes has the both 4.7L V8 turbo and the 5.5L V8 turbo. The S6 will get the one with about 400hp, while the RS6 will get the one with 500hp+.
