2012 Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet – Click above for high-res image gallery

What you are looking at is a Volkswagen Golf with no roof. It is also the first roofless Golf that will be offered for public consumption (in Europe at least, it's probably not coming to America) since 2003.

There's not really much else to say... except maybe that its windshield is raked further back than that of its hatchback siblings and that its updated fascia now boasts LED running lamps. See for yourself in our high-res image gallery below.

Why does this manual transmission vehicle have flappy paddles on the steering wheel?
Yea the CC is on the left stalk (same place where it is on all the other VWs).

Hmmmm, that is odd.....Redundant controls maybe (CC, volume)? No idea why to have them behind the wheel like that, but who knows.
My guess is that is the cruise controls. *Shrugs*
        • 3 Years Ago
Don't shrug, you're right - take a closer look at the pics and you'll see an 'off' on the right-hand paddle.

That's a different way of integrating CC...
Now if only we could get a car with flappy paddles AND a clutch! That would be superb.
@SpaceGoat note the + and - paddles behind the wheel. The cruise control is located on the left stalk, which also operates the lights.
        We do. It's called DSG.
...Wait what, now I just saw the CC on the stalk like in the current Golf.

        Honestly wtf is this.
Nvm. I think you meant clutch pedal.

"There's not really much else to say..."

...except that this is a re-skinned/rebadged Audi A3 Cabriolet?
Reason this new Golf Cabrio won't (or shouldn't) be coming to the U.S. is because we already have one....it's called the New Beetle Convertible.

In all seriousness, imagine VW trying to market two $25-30K convertibles here? Both are/would be obvious highly female in demographic, at a similar price. Two vehicles vying for the same target buyer at the same price point...not a good business case.

      Not offered in America?! Damn.

Despite its association with girls and girly-type persons, the '90s/early '00s Cabrio was an EXTREMELY practical little droptop... tiny footprint, enough room for three full-grown adults, nimble handling, a retractable top that didn't eat into the trunk when down, the hoop providing firmness for the car and a higher mounting point for the shoulder belts... it made a lot of sense... to me and members of my family at least. (My dad has owned two)

Thanks for the wording in the article, I am walking around singing "Hammer Time".

        I thought of Pringles.

I'm not so sure this won't be in the US. The Eos is $30,000 plus so there is room for this in the pricing structure. a $23000-28,000 Gold could be pretty popular IF there isn't a Beetle convertible ready.
I think this looks great and cant imagine why they keep it from America. They have to do something to replace the Beetle convertible dont they. re above post, I own an Eos and i love it, what is wrong with it? why should VW be apologizing for it? Previously I have owned a VW Cabriolet (1985) and a VW Cabrio (1999) so i do have something to compare my Eos to.

It looks like a bath tub on wheels with a windshield. As sterile as it gets.
Offer it with a basket handle roll bar, in white over black. Then we will talk!
why do they say theres never been a golf cabrio before.... isnt that what the old VW cabrio basically was? I mean the ass end (and front) looked pretty golf to me?
