Hennessey V650 Wagon vs. Porsche 911 Turbo - Click above to watch video after the jump

While the Nürburgring circuit seems to be today's venue of choice for sports car bragging rights, the drag strip remains king when it comes to acceleration contests. With that in mind, the folks over at Hennessey Performance have released a video of their latest hopped-up Cadillac V650 Wagon taking on Porsche's venerable 911 Turbo. As expected, the 650-horsepower "Family Station Wagon" nudges the lighter 480-horsepower "Germany's Finest" coupe for the win.

Wait a second.

The video clearly states the Porsche has a "Tiptronic" transmission. This means it is an older, pre-2010 model (note the lack of LED brake lights) that's missing the current lightning-fast dual-clutch PDK gearbox and standard limited-slip rear end. We don't know for sure, but it could even be an aged 2006 model. Thanks to launch control, today's standard 500-horsepower 997 Turbo does 0-60 in less than three seconds... easily. It is also disclosed that the V650 is riding on drag radials – a big advantage over street compounds on a well-used strip.

Nobody's downplaying the ferociousness of the blown wagon, and we welcome this type of challenge, but let's be sure to choose our words more carefully and keep the contestants in the same era. Follow the jump to watch the video.

      Typical Porsche fan boy!!!1!1!11

OMG... don't hate on pure 'Murican muscle when it wipes the track with your precious little Beetle.

Line up a GT-R next and watch that Porsche lose... again. lulZ.

Bring in that Porsche seen on TV that was smoking everything including the Hennessy Viper and you have a fair race. Sorry, this is almost embarrasing to watch.
You do realize that he only smoked the Viper because it spun out at the last turn, right? Other than that, the Viper was killing everything else except for that last competition.
He spun out from too much horsepower knowing he had to go all out to beat him on the last straightaway.... so yeah, I know he spun out. Either way, if you race a guy and one loses control of the car, the one who finishes wins. Irrelevant.

Its nice seeing a CTS-V Wagon beating a Porsche, but only a tool would see that this wasn't completely stacked in the CTS' favor. First off drag radials on only ONE of the cars, while the other is stock. Using a couple of year old Porsche, and picking a race that definitely is more favorable to the higher HP model (drag race, versus on the track).

And even with all that... the CTS beat the 911 by only 0.1 second to the quarter miles... its 0-60 and even its trap speed were the same.

Its impressive what the CTS wagon can do anyways, so I don't think a not-so-fair comparison really adds anything to the Cadillac's accomplishments.

      Not a direct comparison.

This is Typical GM, Just like the commercial that compaired the OLD 2010 Base Elantra to the New 2012 LT Cruise. There is no comparison if they want to compare apples to apples they need to use new cars istead of outdated.

it´s the old 997 TT with the granny tranny (tiptronic), why didn`t they use the 997 TT PDK?

Straight line thrills get old pretty quick.... take that boat on some twisties, get some video and repost.

      Agreed. Rigged. Period.

And just wait until the road is anything but straight... c-ya, Hennessey.

Um just because it has 100 more horsepower, doesn't mean that the CTS-V has lost its excellent handling. Gotta remember...the CTS-V was the very first super saloon to break into the 7s at the Nurburgring.
Sure. But that doesn't put it in the same league as a 911... there are currently 15 Porsches that have all lapped the Nurburgring in under 8 seconds. And they're all 911s.

Holy dang. And I thought the CR-V had overly large taillights. The V-650 has just taken the crown in that deparment. Ill still take one, of course. ;-)

      "Cadillac. There is No Substitute."

      Hmmmmm. Yeah no.
Whatever, I'd still take the porsche every time. I 'd like to know how much the two compare price-wise though...
