Lexus LFA displays serious control on launch – Click above to watch video after the jump

Today, it's almost impossible to buy a new supercar without launch control; the 2011 Lexus LFA is no exception. It might not be the fastest, with a zero-to-60 time of "only" 3.7 seconds, yet the LFA remains an impressive rubber-footed beast.

The LFA's V10 wails towards its 9,500 rpm fuel cutoff like an oni haunting whoever slides behind the wheel. The video posted after the jump focuses on the tachometer as a Lexus LFA bolts from a starting line with the launch control lending its assistance. The driver pushes the car all the way up to 260 km/h (around 163 mph) before letting up on the throttle. Click past the jump to launch into the clip.

Awesome noise, awesome (but not the fastest) acceleration, awesome gauges... awesome car!

        *quickest > fastest

I'm just here for the sound

that speedometer would look nice in my mustang if only someone produce an aftermarket version

I don't care if it can't get to 60 in less than 3 seconds, or that "it's just a lexus", i'll choose this over any comparable super car. the engine is orgasmic!
I agree; the engine note is as close as any road-car has gotten to sounding like an F1 car. I could never get sick of hearing that car (my only regret is that there wasn't enough footage/sound from outside the car).

EVO got it right giving their 2010 engine of the year award.

opps...I meant MP4-12C, which I admit is a stupid man.

        I know right.

Though I'm not especially a fan of Toyota's engine.
I think Yamaha is one of the top 10 engine designers in the world. And a 72 degree, V10, with a 9k redline has to be something else entirely. I'd drive it a gear low just to hear that thing.

You know why the car has a digital tach? Allegedly, it revs too fast for an analog tach to keep up with the engine.
In neutral, goes from idle to redline in about .6 seconds.

they intentionally overpriced the car. even toyota admitted it because they want their first car to be special and feel collectible. I love the LFA and get it instead of market saturating ferrari, gtr and lambos just for the fact that its more rarer
      • 3 Years Ago
My Scion does that same thing -- the beeping sound when you redline. I wish it'd do the red light too, though.
What is that gear symbol that shows up temporarily?
I'm the biggest Lexus and Toyota hater in the world and even I will concede this car is awesome. I just can't believe it isn't faster with that beast of an engine, and that it costs as much as it does. Regardless, it's still gorgeous to the eyes and ears.

How can car enthusiasts 'hate' certain cars, I don't get it. Did a Toyota commit an assault on somebody you know? I enjoy all sorts of cars, some more than others,... but hate?
        I agree with gtv4rudy

There is not reason to hate Toyota... and I owned many Toyota so your comment about "behind close doors" is bull. My Toyotas were still running strong and not one has ever left me on the road side.

I used to do the stupid "hate" crap too... but i grew up and cut that out. A car is a car either you like it or you dont. I like the CTS-V, I like the C63 and I love the ISF... all these cars come from different makers... their all automobiles get over yourself.

I've always thought they are over rated and not as great as people seem to think. I hate them the same way I hate Miley Cyrus: They are false idols and really not very good behind the scenes.

Now if Italy would just do what ever it takes to make the Viper V10 sound this good they'd probably sell quite a few more . If they ever do come back into production.
It almost did 9500 RPM! Wow....
I am in love with the LFA's digital gauge cluster.
I'd buy an Ft-86 over a WRX/MazdaSpeed 3/Gti without hesitation if the Ft-86 has an instrument cluster like the LFA.

heck, I'd buy a Camry if it was the only car on the market with an instrument panel like this.

        Yeah it's AWESOMEEEE

@Motorcycle Man - I don't think its just a "cheap digital trick". If it were that cheap and easy then I think a lot more cars would do something similar. As the technology gets refined and they start to mass produce more of them, then they probably will be able do something similar in lower priced cars.

I'd much prefer a Yaris. The fuel economy simply doesn't compare and it has no need for launch control. Simple living ;)
