Driving the McLaren MP4-12C - Click above to watch video after the jump

If our review of the McLaren MP4-12C only sparked your appetite for the super-rare mid-engine fighter, don't fret. Thanks the wonder of YouTube, we can all hop in the cockpit for a few quick hotlaps in the cabin of the 592-horsepower machine with none other than Jenson Button behind the wheel. McLaren has released a trio of videos to show off exactly what the MP4-12C can accomplish with the limitless talent of an F1 champion behind the wheel.

The first video follows the world's auto journos around as they were introduced to the vehicle for the first time. The second clip, meanwhile, is all about introducing exactly what kind of figures the car can produce on a proper track. McLaren says that 0-62 mph can be clicked off in as little as 3.1 seconds when the MP4-12C is fitted with the optional Pirelli tires and that the quarter-mile dash takes just 10.9 seconds.

If that's not enough to wet your supercar whistle, the final clip focuses on a quick look at the company's advanced simulator. Prepare to geek out in grand fashion. Hit the jump to see the videos.

I don't want a sportbike or a Nissan. I think this is what people who want this are thinking too.

I desperately need to drive this car.
I believe that dollar for dollar this may be the best supercar in the world.
this is the new benchmark. can't wait to see it go against the GT2 RS, the first of the new breed of supercars against the last of the old school.

I hope none of the journos got paid for the privilege there... I'd be happy to pay to drive that car around that circuit a few times, then change seats to let Button take me around a couple more times.

Attention Bernie Eccelstone: instead of another crappy street circuit in Valencia, shift the race to Portimao. And send your daughter to my house.

Stunning performance.... but unlike the McLaren F1 this car is lost in a sea of mid engine designs....and almost looks too 80's.

I absolutely hated this car when I first saw it but now i'm in love with it. I would definitely purchase this car over all of its competitors. The technologies involved are very impressive. I hope we see this car competing in ALMS.

These guys need to take some cues from Top Gear on how to make an exciting video about a car driving around a track. .... this was just... a car driving around a track.

        @Dan Frederiksen

Light weight and electric are mutually exclusive, and not ready for primetime. 900lbs of batteries on board, like a Tesla, is not LIGHT WEIGHT, and not that fast, and once the batteries are depleted, it takes a long time to re-charge.

This may be 2011, but it isn't wishful-thinking-fantasy-land. Electricity storage is still not ready for prime-time, regardless of any advantages that electric motors might have.

Build an electric kit car if you want one. McLaren will build what might be the best sports car currently being produced.

I think Autoblog Green is calling you back over there.

it should be light weight and electric. this is 2011, not 1990.

it demonstrates a substantial cluelessness and possibly an oil state ownership

and these guys are also not Top Gear.
