The rumors appear to be true and Top Gear China is reportedly officially underway. According to the Global Times, a 30-minute pilot episode has been filmed and Chinese comedian Cao Yunjin will be one of the three hosts helming China's version of the greatest automotive television show... in the world.

The format is expected to remain true to the Top Gear style, but so far, little is known about the actual content being filmed. One challenge from the pilot episode has been leaked, and it apparently features a Cadillac taking on a donkey. The two are tasked with lugging millstones around a farm to see which tackles the job more efficiently. Uh-huh.

Here's hoping the next challenge involves deciphering Geely's multi-brand system.

The donkey is probably more reliable.

I don't know, donkey's can be total jackasses sometimes.

Will the Cadillac be a CTS Wagon?

If I may suggest a challenge.... Take cars made by Chinese car makers and crash test them to find out which is better! If they are all like the Brilliance B6 then it should make for a very entertaining episode. They'll probably have to get new hosts after that episode though....

      Short and to the pointless.

I'll watch it if they review all their knock-off cars such as these:

Wonder if they'll call the Mexican sports car 'razy'.

They are more than welcome to come to the States and visit our boys in Alabama. TG UK felt welcome and Im sure the Chinese will to.

Give it a whilebefore it'll be leaked on the net, with proper subtitles mind you... Can't wait to see how this stacks up and what exotic locations they may go to showcase the cars

The UK version of TG for the past few seasons have been lame and boring and propagating it to other nations has just made it worse. I know the BBC are milking this for whatever they can but its time to stop and give the show a decent burial.

Yeah, you were into Top Gear before it was cool, now it's all lame and mainstream.

i wholeheartedly disagree, without top gear, my tv consumption would be cut in half and i'd have to.... read books

Wonder if they'll factor in 'pollution' recycling for the 2?

I remember when C&D did a funny comparison between the Jeep Lower Forty and a donkey, but unlike the Caddy vs donkey, the C&D test actually made some sense (kinda sorta). It goes without saying that this is a strange concept for a show comparison!

Hey, that is an original stunt at least. I don't remember anyone lugging millstones on any of the other TGs.

Wait until they do a cross-city trek against a bicyclist...

As in Manhattan & SFO, my money's on the bike.
