2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 – Click above for high-res image gallery

We're still wrapping our heads around the appearance of the new 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8, but we don't need even a second thought regarding its performance specifications. Just about anything sporting a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 putting out 465 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque will find a welcome bay in our garages, and this Charger is no exception.

Yes, the five-speed automatic is a bit of a disappointment in this day and age, but something tells us a few 12-second trips down the good ol' 1320 ought to ease that bit of pain, as would an autobahn blast at the Charger SRT8's 175 miles per hour top speed. If those tantalizing little tidbits are enough to whet your appetite for more, we highly suggest you click here to read the rest of the impressive specifications.

Naturally, you'll want to take a nice, long gander at the live photos from the 2011 Chicago Auto Show in our high-res image gallery below.

Best American car ever!!!!! They should make a run of 6 speed manuals.

For those complaining about the grill, I'm sure there will be plenty of aftermarket options.
Put on a nose clip from the 68 or 70 Charger with the hideaway lights and a 6 speed manual and I would be in heaven
      • 3 Years Ago
All it needs is a manual.

I waited 2 years to buy this car. I ahe the Magnum R/T and lobve it - but I always wanted a cgarger SRT8. When I saw it atthe car show - I died. The front end looks like a fish with the mouth open wide. I have the $45,000 to bu it whenit comes out, but I can get past the grille. asked the Dodge dealership ifI can but the SRT8 with the RT nose - they thought I was crazy. The rest of the car I love. I want the car in red - I photoshopped the balck bar onthe grile red and it does look biy better. but it's like lipstick on a pig. What do I do?

What do you do? 1st step - quit bitching. 2nd step - learn to write your own freaking language.

And Fords answer to a performance four door saloon will be?

Aww.... yeah, Ford don't have an answer.
You must not be aware of the Ford Taurus with the SHO and the performance package it is quicker than any new Dodge. And please don't take my word for it look it up.

it seems they're getting their styling ideas from the Japs

the front looks very similar to the Evo or GT-R, agreed? Especially the black front grill/bumper section
      • 3 Years Ago
This car would be HOT minus the extra pair of doors.
Less two doors? That's what the Challenger is for. What this car needs is more roof! Think of how good the Magnum might look now...

        @psyabe

I agree with everything you said. I don't enjoy this vehicle as a Dodge Charger! Maybe something else! The front reminds me of my Charger (yeah I have one) and otherwise I think they've gone the wrong direction here!

That's why in two years, I'll be in the market for a 2010 Dodge Charger R/T to replace my now 100,000 mile 06 R/T. Actually, I'll keep the 06 too! Just bench it in the garage!

I don't see the point of two doors in a chassis that long and heavy. Two doors are for smaller vehicles with two seats, or two + two infrequently used very compact seats in back on a shorter and lighter chassis.

Styling wise, the reason I bought a 1995 Chevy Impala SS is that it had muscle (for the time at least) and had smooth simple lines. Understated. This Dodge though just looks so busy with creases and lines and everything jutting out from it.

        Not classy.
Yeah...it would be nice without the back doors.
To be honest, I wasn't into Challenger.....but this model is damn NiCE!!!!
Ummm, that would be a GTR. lol.

        A++++++++++++++++++++ on the exterior.
        F- on the dashboard design.

WOW! I never thought I'd see the day when I'd actually like to own a Dodge. This is definitely a beautiful beast! Too bad the welcome party will be short lived, as I'm sure I'll begin to see them on 24's and painted fluorescent colors...smh.

exactly, all that horse power wasted on a 4 dr....at least some dudes out there will get a car that still looks beast and is also family-friendly
        • 3 Years Ago
It would be hotter if the hood grille fit properly....

I'd like to see a 2-door, as well. However, this car looks awesome.
Sorry, but that charger isn't looking too well, some classics should stay classic

I don't like being down voted at all but I HAVE to get it out of my system. I loved the previous Charger's simplicity and the understated yet muscular appearance. My favorite part of the car was the C pillar and the slight bulge right under it on the rear doors. This new one is fussy, the front fascia is cartoon-like, there are disproportionate angles everywhere, and while the previous Charger looked like a sports car without even intending it, this one looks like its trying to be a sports car but to avail. Not to mention the god damn C pillar that looks like the designers just went for a default vertical line instead of sticking with last gen's angular c pillar. I expected the new design language to be similar to the Challenger, muscular figure yet with sleek, smooth lines, but boy was I wrong. I see everyone drooling all over the new design and I'm trying to hop on that band wagon but it's just not happening.

Am I the only one that doesn't like the new charger's rear spoiler? It looks like it's from a cobolt and that image just ruins it for me.

The front end is out of porportion, they must have grafted it from a pickup truck. It looks like a freaken CARP (fish)with it's mouth wide open.
This car is a real dissapointment sitting next to the new 550 horsepower and 550 lbs of torque camaro for 2012!
Yes, and thats a good thing. Maybe we can get some muscle car wars going again!
It's about time the Camaro caught up with the Mustang. But alas by 2012 the Mustang will be out front again.
Another large-mouth bass front end car and with 6.4L I think horsepower is missing about 100 ponies by today's standard. If service is anything like on my 06 Charger R/T was in finding the battery drain problem, you'll only buy one but I do love my car and Ram truck. Service sucks around here on MOPARS.
