Audi RS7 Sportback spy shots – Click above for high-res image gallery

Normally, any spy shots having to do with Audi's RS series involve large wheels, huge fender flares and low-profile tires. This potential prototype for the Audi RS7 Sportback, however, appears to be going incognito under standard A7 skin.

Audi RS7 spy shotsThe dead giveaway that this A7 is more than meets the eye? The brakes. Specifically, our spy photographers tell us that they've seen prototypes of the standard S7 Sportback plenty of times, and none of those cars we fitted with brakes this large. Even so, the quad exhaust pipes out back are similar to what all of Audi's S models use, though we're told that when it hits production, the RS7 will use a large, dual-exhaust setup.

As for what's underhood, the latest speculation suggests that a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine will be in use, producing somewhere around 550 or 600 horsepower. This power will be managed by a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and sent to all four wheels via Quattro all-wheel drive. Expect the production car – with the normal aggressive RS fittings – to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

The gap between the body and the ground needs to be lessened..If that made sense

I like it, but those wheels are killing it.
agreed, car needs some nice and big wheels and lowering !

+1 - no way Audi's putting these on a RS /R anything. But they do fit over the brakes.

Anyone else catch those enormous panel gaps? Is the stock car like this?

I am an admitted Audi fanatic, however, at some point you need to start bridging the gap between "understated elegance" and "boring" Frankly, if this is an S7 it is really BORING!!!!!

Don't read articles, let alone the articles' title much, do you?

Ugh I'm so tired of Audi's unoriginal models. Copying Mercedes in a leather trimmed platform of the Passat does NOT make you a luxury contender. And to be honest those led lights under the headlamps look like puffy bags from a lack of sleep, ugh the previous generation was pleasing on the eyes and this new design is jarring.

Dude that is a strawman argument. The A7 is a hatchback unlike that of the Mercedes. Audi uses its own platform based off of the A4/A5/A6.

What would you say about Mercedes ripping off Audi with LED daytime running lights. Audi had it in the S6 back in the mid 2000s, now every Mercedes has it.

BTW Mercedes uses LEDs (ala Audi) in the headlights of their S Class also.

Not sure about this design.... meh.

Did anyone read the copy? This is not the RS7 body, it's the A7 and they are just guessing it has the RS7 underpinnings.

I love the front end but I still can't get over the rear end.
        This is S7 not RS7!!!
Looks a little like an Oldsmobile from C pillar back. Its a welcome slenderizing given all the Thick cars out today. Just not sure about that C pillar.
No oval exhausts, no wide fender arches, no RS Grill.
It is NOT the RS7 but most likely the S7!

Anyone remember back when 600HP was like "HOLY MOTHER OF GOD HOW THE HELL!?".

Now it's standard fare across the luxury/exotic range, and when you start throwing out numbers over 900, you really start to get noticed.

      I miss those days. :(

It looks halfway decent for the segment that it is in.
      Not bad.

Homely Looking Thing. What's up Audi?

Let's hope it look better once all the little missing pieces are put in place.

I see a bit of the Olds Aurora in this.
