GT Academy cheaters – Click above to watch video after the jump

A handful of Gran Turismo 5 players are currently battling it out for a shot at becoming a real-world race car driver in Polyphony's GT Academy, but according to GT Planet, there may be a bit of an issue. Currently, the top three drivers are using a less-than-sanctioned route to get around the track by dipping off of the asphalt and cutting two corners entirely to come up with a significantly quicker lap time than everyone else.

To put it simply, the three players who are on the podium right now are cheating.

Now, cheating is a staple of both video gamedom and the hallowed halls of racing, so it should come as no surprise that someone has figured out a way to get around a track quicker than everyone else by bending obliterating the rules. Still, it kind of ruffles our feathers to know that the top award could go to the shadiest man (or woman) standing.

So far, there's no word on whether or not Polyphony will step in to quell the competitor's cheating ways. Hit the jump to have a look at the videos for yourself.

Pshaw. Used to do that ALL the time in the old F-1 games Psygnosis did for the original PlayStation.

Straight-lining the corners and chicanes was par for the course to beat the robo drivers who all mysteriously knew the magic racing line at all times and managed perfect times in every single car. Bullocks.

When the AI cheats or uses tactics and tools the human player cannot use, I think it's fair game for the human player to cheat or cut corners. After all, finding a way to make it work, finding an edge or advantage is part of being human.

I was about to say I wasn't sure about human versus human cheating but that too falls under finding an edge. I say go for it.

That was yesterday, it ended up being the top 20ish cheated. This morning they wiped the record and put a new track in its place.

Forza did a much better job of limiting cuts by Forza 3.... I'm surprised that GT5 hasn't made the effort by now.

I know people do, but it's shameful to cheat the rest of the world.

Seriously, is it that hard to add a penalty for veering off course or simply disqualifying the player? The license tests give you the boot the moment all 4 wheels are off the course, why should this be any different?

It human nature to find an easier/quicker/cheaper way of doing something. Blame the developers who wrote to code to allow it to happen

looks like a nice racing line to me. but this is a problem with gt5 not the player if the player is allowed to do this then y is it cheating??? its not like hes messing with the code of the game. i have both forza3 and gt5 and id rather play forza over gt5. gt5 is a really disappointing game i had real high hopes for it and it fell way short.

DiRT2 is plagued by the same type of problems with their tourney system. There are massive shortcuts on some of the stages, and beyond that some people hack their boxes (presumably) to yield stage times in the 10 second range...

Being at the top by cheating...anyone remember that German guy that ran for that Italian race team...what's that guy's name? HA! Ultimately this is the result of trying to make too much out of a game...it's a game. Keep it that way!
