Chinese fire truck with jet water cannon - Click above to watch the video after the jump

Fire trucks are cool. With that established, Luoyang City, China's new $456,000 super-soaker may as well be named Arthur Fonzarelli. This unique fire truck features a jet-powered water cannon with enough grunt to spray four tons of water per minute at distances up to 400 feet. Our friends at Engadget tell us that the water reaches the fire so quickly that it sucks the oxygen out of the area, suffocating the flame. You know what that is? Exactly: cool.

Hit the jump to watch a demonstration of the jet-powered water cannon. It's not a real fire-fighting scenario, but it's worth a look nonetheless.

That's pretty slick. I imagine it can blanket an area with quite a bit of water. Could be useful in CA.

Any one feel like this is a huge waste of time and money yet one of the coolest things the chines have come up with?
huh i didn't know that. now the question is where do i get one. haha
        • 3 Years Ago
They didn't though. Israel and Hungary came up with it to fight the oil fires in Iraq in the first Gulf War. Their trucks were cooler though, because they were tanks with plane engines instead of turrets.

And when there are no fires, they can use it to hose down mobs of unruly dissidents.

I think she said she has experience with using sticks. ^.~

She's just describing the fire truck, starting with where it was, costs $3 million Yuan, how it's jet powered, can shoot 4 tons of water per minute, etc.

Government protesters will get a good washing in the future.

For some people, the gal just has to be asian = "hot."

        She's kinda cute - for a 12 year old.

Anyway, that thing is pretty cool.

        @Tagg,

Couldn't agree with you more. Just like my Chinese gf's...her age is always mistaken for >10yrs her junior.
She looks young but she is easily in her 20's. Asian women often look younger than they actually are.

If you think she looks 9-12 years old then maybe you should stick to episodes of the Golden Girls. Perhaps Bea Authur is more your taste.

        "why...?"

        "..because"

...my gf is (yeah, am partial).
She said, There are 12 jet fire trucks in China, this is one of them which uses the turbo engine derived from Jian-5 jet flighter to pump water, the super pump engine could deliver extraodinary power to "shoot" out the high pressure water...

Yup, and the Israelis did it too. Bought F16's from us and ripped the engines out, slapped them on a Russian tank, and they have a badass firetruck. This chinese tin can is nowhere near the first.

Don't they already have these type of water cannons for riot control in some countries in europe? Doesn't seem like a new idea to me.
