Despite weathering a rocky 2010 marked by repeated recalls, Toyota managed to remain the world's largest automaker last year. According to Bloomberg, the Japanese manufacturer saw its sales rise by eight percent to 8.42 million units if you include Lexus, Hino and Daihatsu. That figure beat out General Motors, which saw its sales increase by 12 percent with 8.39 million units sold.

While Toyota's sales in the U.S. market dropped by 0.4 percent due to safety concerns, the automaker saw large increases in China. The company's sales in the People's Republic jumped by 19 percent, though General Motors saw its Chinese sales increase by 29 percent.

Volkswagen, meanwhile, managed to move 7.14 million vehicles during 2010, cementing its place as the third-largest automaker in the world. That figure marks a 14 percent increase over 2009, and VW says that it fully expects to see sales increase by five percent in 2011.

Toyota is forecasting its sales to hit 8.6 million vehicles in 2011.

I saw what I recall was a Hyundai commercial this past weekend with sheep driving boring, bland vehicles around. There was a good time to be had by all.

      Yeah, sheep...

Now that you have eliminated your pillow, it is possible to sleep in an advantageous position for increasing your height. In order to accomplish this, your spine must be as straight as possible. We recommend that you lie on you back with your arms and legs stretched toward the foot of the bed. Do not exert any effort or pressure to stretch your limbs. Allow your body to be completely relaxed. You may let your head turn to the right or left and bend your arms if it is more comfortable to you. The important thing is to keep your body (torso and legs) as straight as possible. This position may prove to be uncomfortable for the first few nights, but your body will soon become accustomed to this manner of sleeping and before long you will discover not only extra inches but, also a. more comfortable sleep.

In this very important chapter you will learn how to correct some bad sleeping habits which rob you of your maximum height potential. For example many of you only get 3 and 4 hours of sleep each night. Well, did you know that if you remained in bed for several days that within that time span you would actually increase your height as much as a full inch? Unfortunately, this increase in height is only a temporary condition. As soon as you are up and around again the forces of gravity compress the disc between the vertebrae to their original width, and you revert back to your original height. While you are lying in bed there is no pressure on the vertebral disc, which allows it to expand, thus explaining our normal growth pattern. However, only a small percentage of this expansion is retained. Exercise must be used to strengthen and maintain this expansion at its peak. Otherwise, the normal forces of gravity will take their toll. On the other hand, in order to reap the benefits of our detailed exercise program, you must also assure yourself of getting the proper rest otherwise the exercise is useless by itself. As a rule, we strongly recommend getting at least 8 hours of sleep for best results. In order to maximize your fullest height potential, there are some very important tips you need to know about sleeping. Make sure your mattress is firm and capable of giving your body full support. This is to aid in keeping your spine as straight as possible while sleeping. A soft or sagging mattress will tend to bend the spine and curve the torso in a sinking effect, which must be avoided. A good mattress will support the whole body, which will keep it in a straight posture setting ? a must for obtaining greater height.

at : Mike - Toyota is not as lucky as General Motors and Chrysler and the short memory span of the unfortunate people who buy from those two incompetent brands.

If you want to see alot of people asleep, visit a GM dealership and count the huge number of people having a rest while waiting for their car to get fixed ... AGAIN !!

That's why GM dealerships are installing hammocks and beds because those who unfortunately purchase one of thier unreliable cars discover the dealership becomes thier second home. I've even heard GM is considering offering customers their own postbox sense they'll be visiting the dealership more then home.

And while i'm at it - GM's class leading vehicles consist off ....

Why would domestic fans weep? They're not the ones driving these snooze inducing Toyota crap boxes.

Toyota doesn't have anything that's best in class anymore. They're just lucky that people have short attention spans and quickly forget how much they've attempted decieved the public at large about all of their transgressions.

Toyota is the world's largest driving appliance manufacturer. Any auto enthusiast interested in the fun of driving a car and not just the utility would immediately say "Quality, not quantity" in response to this headline.
Dude, have you ever driven a Camry? I rented one for a week while my car was in the shop. My Buick Regal out-accelerated that piece of crap Camry like it was nobody's business. I felt like Grandpa going to Bingo night in that thing! It really IS an appliance: plug it in, use it and don't complain. I don't think Toyota hasn't made a "fun" car to drive since the mid-seventies Celica hit the streets...
Since Toyota tops quality surveys that means they would chose a Toyota.

Toyota does need to watch their back. Since GM is still government and union owned this news that Toyota is still #1 and growing will not be taken nicely by them. Won't be surprising for them to manufacture another "crisis" for Toyota.
The whole appliance argument is like an excuse for competing brand fans as to why their favorite brands have failed them time after time in the reliability department. Any half wit should realize by now that cars like the Camry are not meant to be fun but geared more towards utility, safety, reliability and affordability, which is what 99% of people shopping in this segment look for, which is what Toyota has excelled at and is why Toyota has become so popular and successful.

And it's not like cars in this segment from competing brands are really anymore "fun".

att : John H - can you please provide a link that identify's most Autoblog readers are about fast, dynamic cars.

What about those who equally enjoy a good 4WD, luxury / prestige motoring, SUV's and People Movers aka family people or perhaps even cleaner / greener transport such as diesel and hybrid powered cars.

In-case you haven't noticed (obviuosly not) but there are many different types of cars for the many different markets and category's.

"Uh, actually, yeah. Between the Sonata's turbo and the Fusion and Accord's handling, there ARE more fun vehicles in this segment."

Uh, yes because turbo automatically equates into more fun. /sarcasm.

People keep trying to take things out of context. Practicality and purpose is what Toyota had in mind when it created its lineup and I think the vast majority of Toyota's vehicle carry out their roles very well, in terms of design and function. If any car in Toyota's lineup is open to criticism it's the Solara, which I agree is a failure. But the Camry carries out its purpose as a practical and reliable driving appliance to get people from A to B just like the 4Runner and the Sienna all excel in the categories they were meant to.

Uh, actually, yeah. Between the Sonata's turbo and the Fusion and Accord's handling, there ARE more fun vehicles in this segment.

Just because I've resigned myself to a four-door family sedan doesn't mean I've lost all will to live. There's vehicles in every segment that are more fun relative to their competitors.

        @ Ronald,

You're forgetting the Supra, though that car was so out of character for Toyota (especially today's Toyota) that such an oversight is forgivable. :)

I didn't mean the quality of the build. I meant the quality of the drive and the fun factor -- you know, the things most Autoblog readers are primarily interested in.

emperorkoku, the Camry SE handlidly beats the Accord, Fusion and sonata turbo in handling. And the V6 Camry (SE or not) out-accelerates all of the V6 (and Sonata Turbo) competition.

att : John H - car enthusiasts come in many shapes and form of which Toyota & Lexus covers just about every avenue.

        * There are those who have a passion for fast, dynamic cars of which Lexus caters for with the IS350, ISF & F-sport derivatives. TRD also has a long history of offering options to those who wish to improve the apperance and sporting nature of thier car, 4WD or Truck ofwhich the brand is regularly offering in markets such as North America and Japan.

        * There are those who have a passion for 4WD's and enjoy the adventures of Off-roading. Globally ... Toyota arguably leads this category with world renowned and highly respected units including the LandCruiser, LandCruiser Ute aka '70 Series, Prado, 4Runner, FJ, Hilux / Tacoma and ofcourse the GX460 & LX570 . Travel to the most challenging, remote, isolated, hot, dusty and humid environments on earth such as Africa and outback Australia and Toyota 4WD's rule the roost.

        * There are those who have a passion for plush, luxury / prestige motoring of which the Lexus GS, LS and RX make good examples.

        * god damn - there are even those who are enthusiastic about greener / alternative transport of which Toyota and Lexus has a growing portfolio of hybrid vehicles.

If i was you, be more specific about exactly what sort of a motoring enthusiast you are !!!

I love Ford, but, Unfortunately, its nowhere near the top, its going to be lagging in #4 or #5.

GM could possibly overtake Toyota, especially since Chevy is gaining ground in Europe and Recovery in its US car business.

The race for number 1 is between GM, Toyota and Volkswagen. Hyundai does not have the brands to take on these three.

I hope GM stays focused on product and not on volume. If they keep their new products superior to Toyota (like the Cruze Vs. Corolla), they will retake # 1 without gimmicks.

The outcome of Chevy in Korea and Europe is key to this.

The problem is that GM is counting a lot of car sales from joint ventures that they don't hold a majority stake in. Yes there are a lot of cars sold in China by GM but it's not only by GM. So counting all these as GM sales is rather questionable. They've been buying up stakes here and there to increase their holdings but nonetheless it's not like GM is getting all the profits.

The best maker of anything is rarely the one with the most sales. I bet McDonalds sells more hamburgers than anyone else, but I wouldn't eat there.
