Jeep Wagoneer through the years – Click above for high-res image gallery

Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Chrysler, has reportedly just announced his plans to bring an old American nameplate back to life. According to Automotive News, in two years time, Jeep will roll out a seven-seat SUV and its badge will read: Grand Wagoneer. According to Marchionne, it will be an upscale, seven-seat sport utility vehicle built on the same platform as the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango.

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is slated to make its first appearance in January 2013, though whether that will be in conceptual or production form, we're not yet sure.

I've always dreamed of owning a vintage Wagoneer (blue with fake wood sides please). Instead I settled for a '96 Cherokee Classic (boxy=good) which I'm still driving. If they get the design right, it might finally be time to trade up (after a mere 190K+ miles).

Oh geez, PLEASE PLEASE dont bring back this disgustingly ugly vehicle. You cant even get a good trade in on any jeep models as it is besides the wrangler, both the cherokee and wagoneer lose 75% of their value as soon as they leave the lot. DONT BRING IT BACK!!! All the other companies that are bringing back old eyesores also should be shot, they are gone for a reason dont ya think? DUH!

I have a jeep commander and love it. It has more room than the gc. The commander and the gc have the same drivetrain in which the new wagoneer will most likely share alot of the same things as the new gc. Could be wrong but will wait and see.

I wouldn't expect this to be much more than a lengthened Grand Cherokee.

Yeah. Imagine a Durango with a GC grille.

Have owned Jeep Grand Cherokees for eons...in fact we were a 3 Jeep family (all Grand Cherokees). Wagoneers of the 1980's were my first. They are the classic American car. A cross between the Grand Cherokee LTD and the Wagoneer would be heavenly...black with wood doors .... black leather interior and wood dash. When can I order one?

If they want to make an upscale Durango, why can't they use the Chrysler brand?

Just give it the looks of the recent Nukizer concept and might will work out. The snout on that thing is the closest to the old school Wagoneer. Even something like the Ford Flex that is more/less a supersized Wagoneer would probably stand a chance.

Make it look like a bloated morbidly obese Liberty like the last attempt at a large SUV and it will end just as badly as the Commander did.

So no Wrangler pickup, but a large 7 seat suv?

        Who know's

We might get a proper and competent Pickup based off of this ?

A Retro styled Grand Wagoneer with wood paneling would be great.
