The Vancat – Click above for high-res image gallery

Traversing snow-covered terrain can be tricky and if you need carry a dozen passengers, your options become quite limited quite quickly. Peak Snow Adventures of Northern Idaho has come up with a solution and it's called the Vancat.

A hybrid we can get excited about, the Vancat has a whole lot of everything going on. Starting with a full-size Dodge Ram van body mounted on a Thiokol chassis, the Vancat is propelled by a 391 Ford V8 engine and power is routed to a set of German-made Hans Hall aluminum tracks.

The Vancat can seat 16 passengers along with everyone's snow gear, and if that wasn't enough, the roof has been chopped up and turned into a canopy so your snowbunny passengers can enjoy the scenery. The Vancat is currently for sale with a reduced (and apparently negotiable) asking price of $30,000.

SICK! A 391 is an oddball choice as well, how often do you see FT series engines anymore? I guess the good thing is that a 428 should drop right in to place :D

Very cool. It's snowing like crazy here in NYC - Mayor Bloomberg could use one of these if he screws up again.

The reason for the Ford 391 is...the van body was install on top of a old 1970's vintage Thiokol Model 2100 snowcat and one of the engines available in that model was the 391 mated to a C-6 automatic.

A used pisten bully with a 13passenger cab sold last year for about $80K so $36k could be a steal.

      Noooooo !!! A Ford in a Dodge !!

I remember a Mopar magazine back in the late 80's a 360 4bbl Dodge van ran 15 flat in the 1/4 stock...they modded it (headers, gears, different carb)and ran in the 13's and were gunning for the 12's !

Many Snow Cats have Dodge engines,I know in Colorado my buddy bought a beastly snow machine with a Dodge 360 !

A 440 Dodge would of been a better choice as in the movie bullit the stock 440 blew the doors off the modified 390 Ford ! (391 industrial block lower hp than a 390)
Those 440 cars were low 12's stock in the quarter mile when new,as tested by car life with 8 inch slicks,13-14 with stock tire spinning 14 inch tires !

Due to severe budget cuts, The Empire's arrival on Hoth produced not so much shock and very little awe.

Perfect for the Northern Zombie Apocalypse region.

A friend of mine has a Ford snowmobile, which I think is even more awesome.

Won't hold as many people, though.

I guess I can't include a picture, but you can google them, (made in the 20's)

There aren't many ways to look cool driving an old van, but this is one of them.
