Kia KV7 Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery

Kia certainly knows a thing or two about embracing the box design. After all, the styling of the Soul is certainly a perfect interpretation of the good things boxy shapes can create. With that in mind, Kia has set to reinvent the van with its new KV7 Concept here at the Detroit Auto Show. But we aren't talking minivan – this is pure, boxy conversion van hotness.

Inside, there are clever features like swivel chairs for all occupants (including the driver), and the rear quarters are set up in a sort of lounge fashion. There are nifty gadgets like a floating table-top computer and full wireless internet capability. Wrap that in a sleek, boxy package that boasts a 285-turbocharged four-cylinder engine and the end result is a van that means serious business. As much as we'd love to see this concept come to fruition, we'll chalk this one up as just another example of what happens when you let automotive designers run wild. See for yourself in the high-res galleries below.

      B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!

I hope they bring it to market! And ford should keep the Flex, but update its styling to something more contemporary and make it resemble more of an urban boxy-van(stretched Nissan Cube, this, etc). And also pack it with what you've put into the Cmax.

Kia just made a better Flex than Ford did..... and I know it's wishful thinking, but they should keep that gullwing. Could be a key selling point, seeing as how no one else in the minivan or CUV segments has one...

I wonder how many of these comments are coming from Seoul. Go to bed you sons of bitches and find new jobs.

Actually, they are probably left-coast sellouts who work for a branding company. Unleash the hounds.

Kia's answer to the Ford Flex, asking questions the Ford couldn't answer. Well done overall, I'd like to see them take this to production with the new turbo 4 as an optional engine.

It's a neat-looking concept, and it kind of reminds me of that Nissan lounge van concept (I can't remember the name) from a while back.

      Very cool. Love it.

Too bad it'll never make it to North America. Not that it wouldn't sell, it's just that you couldn't get the 30% of the obese population to fit in the little chairs. Not enough cup holders either.

What a fantastic concept. I don't think I've ever had the opportunity to describe a van as 'gorgeous.' The interior is stunning as well, love the lounge seating and wood floor.
Certainly a unique interior, although I don't know how passengers would feel sitting on a side bench for a long trip.

Wow. How original, KIA. Whats next? Are you gonna call it the KIA Flex, too? Shameful ripoff, idiots.

Don't ya'll Kia haters get me started. I'll get get Toyota, Ford and Chevy designs. I done it before and i'll do it again. You know why? Because I'm jtz. I can make 5 paragraphs of over 100 non korean car look alikes. I can get 30 suvs with the same side profiles. I can get 10 to 15 cars with slanted C pillars.

Can't say I'd ever consider buying this thing, but it sure is a relief seeing automakers veering away from massive gaping air ducts and bulky 'aggressive' bumpers, and start moving towards a cleaner, sleeker finish.

      No thank you.

It's shocking to me Toyota got the xB so right the first time and everything since has been overwraught foolishness (including the 2nd xB).

        Interesting theory BD2,
Some would say the Honda Element modernized the BOX.

Ya kinda pointless. The roof is too low to put anything into it. We have lots of minivans to choose from already thanks.
