2011 Audi A6 Hybrid – Click above for high-res image gallery

While we have already met the 2012 Audi A6, we weren't clear on what the A6 Hybrid would look like. As it turns out, we had a pretty solid idea, as Audi officials say they have gone out of their way to keep it aesthetically true to the conventional gas-powered model.

The new A6 hybrid is a front-wheel drive affair that offers Audi's 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder with a 45-horsepower/155 pound-feet of torque electric motor sitting ahead of the eight-speed Tiptronic gearbox. A modest 1.3 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack is resident in the trunk to generate 39 kW. Audi quotes an estimated combined fuel economy rating of 38 miles per gallon, noting that the A6 Hybrid can be coaxed up to 62 mph strictly on electricity, and it has a pure-electric range of three kilometers (1.86 miles).

Audi isn't confirming when this new model will go on sale, but it is widely understood that the gas-electric model was conceived with the U.S. in mind, so we wouldn't be surprised to see it roll into American dealerships before it hits the rest of the globe.

The A6 hybrid isn't a plug-in. It can not be coaxed up to ANY speed "strictly on electricity". All movement of it is from burning gas, even if the ICE isn't on at the moment it occurs.
Yeah, and it can be converted over to 1 man power, up to 4 man power depending on how many passer bys you can sucker in to helping you push it to the next gas station when it breaks down.

Why invest in a Hybrid model, if supposedly the Germans keep saying that a modern Diesel is a better engine?
The lines are much crisper in this color, than the red.

The wheels on this Hybrid makes the A6 look so much better than the S-double spoke on red one

        Emphatically disagree.

This is what manufacturers need to do to convince us all to buy hybrid and electric cars instead of the awful looking Prius type things.

Anyone else think at first glance that the front end looks like the Sonata Hybrid?
Both are black, but design-wise, it's different in shape.
        nope. only you.

A 3.0 TFSI hybrid would be better...
        Well yes a 3.0 hybrid would be better but then i'd beat the point of a "hybrid". The 2.0 motor + a 55hp/150 pound/feet = about 260 hp and 350+ pound-feet total.

That sounds right and it's more than an MB E350 gasoline ... and don't forget this hybrid gets 38 mpg. That's as good as the sonata hybrid!

        Pretty impressive overall!

      Not surprised at the direction.
I dont thinks all that bad.
Im liking the proportions, just wish it was a little wider.
Looks like it had a width constraint.

The interior is worse than the exterior.

The grill doesnt have much identity.

Weird that Chrysler is still looking for a design identity.

I just saw the previous gen A6 on the way to work today. Now THAT car is a looker. Looks like it belongs to the Audi family without blending too much with the rest of the line-up, unlike the newer models.

Wow! what a difference colour makes, IMO this looks much better than in this colour rather than in red,and also the front looks better than the ongoing model, the back..not so much

It look really awesome and this technology are awesome.
      I can't wait for the new RS6 :D
Great-looking car, but damn, that's a huge extrusion in the trunk. ;p

I wonder how much it will affect cargo capacity in practice. I would hate to stack my luggage on those leather seats.
Yeah.. that's a chuck of drunk space gone!
