Spied: 2012 Chrysler 200 Convertible – Click above for high-res image gallery

The 2012 Chrysler 200 Convertible is set to debut at the 2011 New York Auto show later this year. Thanks to the lens work of one particularly wily spy photographer, we get a clear look at the drop-top ahead of schedule. This two-door, soft-top example was caught running around with a surprising lack of camo-cladding.

Though we see a soft-top here, we can't rule out the inclusion of a retracting hardtop since the outgoing Sebring employed a variety of disappearing roofs over its lifetime. See for yourself in our high-res image gallery below.

Looks contemporary and derivative but not imaginative. Maybe that's what sells here.

I'd still be more interested in a 300 convertible than this piece of... ewwww. Just another sad last-gen Sebring. Give us a REAL family sedan convertible and I'd be first in line. Heck, make a reliable full sized Sebring similar to the style of the early 2000's and I'd be tempted. I'd really rather see a production 300 convertible, though.

You know... The 200 sedan looks marginally better than the Sebring sedan, but it's the opposite when it comes to the convertible variants, in my opinion.

The snout of this 200 just does not match the rest of the body. At all.

That side view just looks wrong...am I the only one who thinks the rear panel looks too far out?
It's the parallel body panel lines that make it look like that. I think it will make sense to not read any Chrysler 200 news until the proper RWD version hits in a couple years. :p

Is it really a mule? That looks official, at least, based on the other shots.
The long rear is designed to hold the folding metal top, the vinyl top, and the fabric top you see pictured.

Since this is a test mule I wouldn't get too worried. The body may have already been perfected and this is an older mule that is testing the soft top and foul weather capabilities. That might explain why it has no camo.

I hope they do a hardtop convertible as well. I always thought that was the best looking old Sebring and should be for the new 200.

I hope it's a mule lol. That looks like a design from the 90s.
        I just... don't know.
No, you're not alone. But its proportions kind of remind me of the Volkswagen Eos.
This is not a mule. It wouldn't make sense to make a mule with body panels that differ from the final product for the convertible, the 200 is just a refresh of the Sebring in all forms (sedan and convertible), not an all new car.

What we are seeing is what we are getting.

Nice, but they really need to make a Challenger convertible too. If they can make one out of a friggin PT Cruiser for chrissakes they can sure make one out of a Challenger. Make it happen!

They went to a brink of extinction due to the bankruptcy, but they are back! With this! Ladies and gentlemen please welcome the all-new 2012 Chrysler 200, which, coincidentally, is exactly the same as all-old 2007 Chrysler Sebring.
I wish they were focusing on an all-wheel-drive option instead of a convertible option.
WTF this is just a sebring.
        @6ixpeed: Gorgeous? *Really*?
        It's a Sebring with a new badge.
I could have sworn I saw a hardtop version of this car, cruising in a pack of a 3 new chryslers on 696, around 10pm... heading towards ann arbor. (unless the 300 comes in a convertible as well)

It's still no looker, but previous generations of sebring convertibles weren't much to look at either. So long as they bring the new interior from the sedan over the sales will likely improve.

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
