Azure Dynamics has announced that it has signed deals with the final two organizations to join the Ford Transit Connect Electric's "Lead Customer" program. The ninth customer is a Washington D.C.-based government organization and the tenth is a logistics company that wants 30 units; the single largest Transit Connect Electric order recorded to date. At this time, neither organization has been named.
The Lead program was designed to allow government agencies and commercial companies the opportunity to receive one battery-powered Transit by year's end, with fulfillment of additional orders taking place in 2011. With ten customers lined up and nearly 150 Connect Electrics ordered, the program has achieved its objective and will officially close. Some of the organizations getting in on the action include AT&T, Southern California Edison, Xcel Energy, Johnson Controls Inc., New York Power Authority, Canada Post and Toronto Atmospheric Fund EV300.
