Fast and Furious Five: Fast 5 trailer – Click above to watch video after the jump

You can make fun of the series all you want... but you know you are going to watch the next installment in the Fast and Furious franchise. The fifth film, called Fast 5, is set to hit theaters (including IMAX) on April 29th, 2011. Paul Walker and Vin Diesel are back again reprising the lead roles of Dom and Brian. Also back are Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Sung Kang (which is surprising since we're pretty sure he died in Tokyo Drift, no?).

Fast 5 takes place in Rio de Janeiro, where the crew is forced to perform "one last job" in order to earn their freedom. A new law enforcement agent stands in their way – played by none other than Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The film will surely be filled with plenty of gratuitous vehicular action that looks great on camera while breaking every conceivable law of physics.

The trailer for the film, which is available after the jump, features only a few clear shots at some of the cars in the flick. We spy (deep breath) an E39 5 Series, a pair of matte black Charger police cars, a modified 350Z, a resto-mod Charger, a few glimpses of parked Porsches, some assorted SUVs that are promptly trashed, an old VW bus, a Ford GT, what appears to be a Mongoose Motorsports Corvette Grand Sport Roadster replica, a Nissan GT-R and a few others we may have missed.

Live your life a trailer at a time... in the next two minutes or less... you'll be free. Thanks for the tip, Alex!

Jordana is the prime factor in me watching this movie.

Wow they brought back everyone from the first three movies...i cant wait for this...although its starting to look more like a guns for hire movie rather than a street racing movie where it got its roots from...and i guess the import scene isnt as prominent in this one besides the very brief car gathering scene..
yeah Tri shield is right...... not too many people are into the ricer genre as much. and im not gonna complain either cuz i've loved every single one of the F&Fs that have come out.
The first film was based on the import/rice/street racing fad of the late 90s (which has come and gone) and has since grown into it's own cheesy action series with lots of car pr0n. No complaints from me.

I am so glad that I did not see a real 3D logo at the end of that. I am so don with 3d movies. Looks like a great movie not alot of computer effects.

The movie looks totally awesome and not anywhere Oscar worthy just like all the others, which is exactly what I like.

I saw them filming the scene with the Mongoose Motorsports Corvette driving from AZ to CA last 4th of July. Now I know what movie it was for.

"Also back are Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Sung Kang (which is surprising since we're pretty sure he died in Tokyo Drift, no?)."

Not quite. I believe I read a brief article when this film was in pre-production that if you follow 1,4,2,3 in that order, this movie is supposed to take place before 3, but after both 4 & 2. What makes it confusing is if you choose to include the short-film before 2 in the timeline. That throws everything out of wack.

As I said before, reactions to this trailer actually seem to be very positive. Bringing back the popular characters from the series is a nostalgic surprise. Dwayne Johnson's appearance is unexpected but long overdue as someone who is just as physically imposing on camera as Vin Diesel. Say what you want, but his character threatens a guy by holding a chain attached to a built crate motor half an inch from smashing his face in F&F (I remember this because coincidentally, I was watching it before I got back online. The Bourne series, some Ninja Gaiden/Heavenly Sword/ God of War and F&F...it's been a "mindless entertainment day :) ). It's probably about time they put someone around him that actually LOOKS like he can kick his ass.

Btw, yes, I do watch these films. I'm a film student. I watch and dissect Academy Award-winning/nominating films all damn day. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a straight-up popcorn flick that people rag on for being cheesy and plotless. If you're not going to go see it, fine. Don't. But I'll be there, like I've been everytime they come out, watching all the young idiots get tickets for doing burnouts and speeding afterwards. And I don't hardly feel bad about it.

It IS confusing, but technically, there's no specific reference in timeline. The producers could actually add a car without saying what year it is within the movie and the actual events don't alter. I think all that matters is knowing which movie comes first and which comes last. For example, if you recall, when Brian was choosing which car at the police station (Movie 4), he had a choice of a white R34, a blue R34 and a Red R35 (which looked awful with the bottom areas of the car painted...ugh). Another example, they appear to be driving both new AND old Chargers. If you look closely toward the very end of the trailer, you can see the very distinct LED taillamps of the new Chargers but when they're driving the flat black cars in tandem, they're the old version.

I also spot a widebody flat black Challenger. This movie loves Mopar. Makes me happy.

That order doesn't make as much sense as
        The Fast and the Furious
        2 Fast 2 Furious
        Fast and Furious
The Fast and the Furious 3: Tokyo Drift.

BC in Fast and Furious there are comments from O'Connor's boss about it being good they reinstated him, and when he selects a car he points at an R34 and says he wants one of those because he wrecked one like it before.

what confuses me the most is @ 1:37 there is a 2009-11 GT R, how they explain this if when Han was killed the new GT R didn't exist yet?
I think capn233 got the order. He/she's a bigger geek than me. Awesome. lol

I completely forgot about O'Connor's boss, but your order makes the most sense. See? There, we've finally figured it out. All is right with the world and somewhere a kitten is meowing happily. :-)

Also, right before Letty is murdered, she tells Dom "I hear Rio's nice this year", which leads us to Brazil. The movie is also shot in Puerto Rico, Atlanta and Arizona, so I'm curious if any of those places will actually be referrenced or if it'll simply be "we put up a sign to make all of these cities look like the whole thing takes place in Brazil".

For the new GT-R....well, let's just let our fanatisies do the work for us and mark the GTR as a post-02 model, nothing more.
      Eff. Yes.

Hopefully it's just like the cast, and combines everything that was awesome from the first 4 movies. Regardless, this trailer looks sick and I'll be in a seat on opening night!
