continues to successfully trade on its history with the introduction of the new 426 cubic-inch Generation III Hemi crate engine. When your past is filled with some of the most illustrious engines to ever roar down a drag strip, around an oval or under the hood of a muscle car, it's smart to capitalize on it. So with that in mind, production of the 426 crate engine has swung into action.

The new Mopar 426 Hemi Crate Engine is all-aluminum and carries ratings of 540 horsepower and 530 pound-feet of torque for a $13,675 price tag. The engine made its debut at the Performance Racing Industry show in Florida, and was joined by other performance enhancing Mopar goodies. Pieces big and small, from valvetrain tie bars and cylinder head stud kits to aluminum engine blocks, W2 cylinder heads and rear strut tower braces for the Challenger/Charger/300, were all shown off at the show which ran from December 9-11. What it means for the leadfoot-at-large is that Chrysler loves its enthusiastic fan base as much as they love its products. Mopar® Puts "Elephants" in the Room at Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show
Production Begins for New 426 All-aluminum HEMI® V8, Which is 100 Pounds Lighter and Smarter; First 2011 Challenger V-10 Drag Pak To Come Off the Line Early Next Year

Mopar® is bringing truckloads of new product to the PRI show in Orlando-including the reincarnation of its famed "elephant motor" from the 1960s, an all-aluminum HEMI® Gen III Crate Engine. Production for the new motor begins this month.

"More than any other show, PRI attracts the Mopar brand's core customers of racers, muscle-car owners and ultra-performance enthusiasts," said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO, Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC's service, parts and customer-care brand. "We will show this core group of enthusiasts what Mopar has under the hood."

In addition to the new elephant motor, the 2011 Mopar Challenger V-10 Drag Pak, the first and only 500-plus cubic-inch V-10 drag-race package car on the planet, will headline the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show, Dec. 9 - 11 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. New Moparized rides and 10 new Mopar performance parts will also be on display.

The 2011 Mopar Challenger V-10 Drag Pak, recently named to the 2011 "Hagerty Hot List" of collectible cars, will be on display on the Mopar Image Center stage at PRI. Fans will have the opportunity to pose for an eShot photo on Thursday and Friday with the new rear-wheel drive race car, approved for NHRA Stock and Super Stock competition.

The new Drag Pak will be joined in the Mopar Image Center by a Moparized 2010 Ram Laramie Crew 4x4 Diesel and the Mopar '10 Challenger, the first-ever Mopar edition of a Chrysler Group LLC vehicle. The Mopar exhibit on the PRI show floor will feature five other examples of Mopar steel:

• Mopar Ram Runner, Mopar's premier pre-runner kit
• Mopar Direct Connection Test Lab Vehicle, a rolling test lab of new parts and ideas
• Dodge Viper ACR-X, a factory-built race car ready to romp
• Sox & Martin's 1972 Pro Stock Dodge Demon, a true piece of Pro Stock history
• Kenny Wayne Shepherd's new 1964 Dodge 330. Powered by a Mopar Gen 3 426 all-aluminum HEMI crate engine, this car mixes old-school classic with new-school performance

Mopar stars, past and present, will sign autographs and meet fans at PRI. Mopar racing legends "Big Daddy" Don Garlits and Herb McCandless will make an appearance in the Mopar exhibit on Thursday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. EST. Current Mopar-powered NHRA Pro Stock stars Allen Johnson and V. Gaines will participate in a Mopar meet-and-greet on Friday, Dec. 10, also at 2 p.m.

The PRI Show will also mark the debut of 10 new Mopar performance parts geared for high-performance applications:

Mopar 426 Aluminum HEMI Gen III Crate Engine: The Mopar 426 Aluminum HEMI Gen III Crate engine assembly includes the intake manifold and oil pan and offers 540 horsepower and 530 ft.-lbs. of torque. Part Number (PN): P5155513; Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP): $13,675.

Mopar Valvetrain Tie Bars: For the HEMI Gen III, valvetrain tie bars increase the stiffness of the rocker shaft attachment to the cylinder head and provide increased valvetrain stability at higher RPMs. PN: P5155654 (5.7/6.1L), P5155655 (6.4L); MSRP: $399.

Mopar Rear Strut Tower: Achieve additional chassis rigidity with this rear strut tower bar for the 2008–2010 Dodge Challenger, 2005–2010 Charger/300. PN: P5155751; MSRP: $505.

Mopar Midget Race Cylinder Head: This overhead cam-style cylinder head for midget race 4-cylinder engines allows for increased RPMs and is compatible with existing Mopar engine blocks. Available February 2011. PN: P5155784; MSRP: N/A.

Mopar W2 Heads: For a small block wedge, W2 heads feature cast-iron race cylinder heads machined for 2.02-inch intake valves and 1.60-inch exhaust valves. Available January 2011. PN: P5249769; MSRP: $636 each; PN: P5007708AB; MSRP: $620 each.

Mopar Gen III Distributor Kit: This distributor kit allows for the use of a distributor to fire the ignition for the 5.7L/6.L HEMI Gen III engine. Available February 2011. PN: N/A; MSRP: N/A.

More than 70 Years of Mopar
When Chrysler bought Dodge in 1928, the need for a dedicated parts manufacturer, supplier and distribution system to support the growing enterprise led to the formation of the Chrysler Motor Parts Corporation (CMPC) in 1929.

      Great to finally see an all Aluminum Hemi motor. Lets hope the Aluminum block sees production as well. The LS boys have had the Aluminum party to themselves too long. Now with the 5.0 and this Hemi, there is finally some competition in the engine swap arena.

        I don't think you can call a four cylinder "modern" with a straight face. The 1908 Ford Model T had a four cylinder. In fact, most of the first production automobiles were four and six cylinder until at least 1932 when the Ford Model B came along. Until then V8s were reserved for planes and really really expensive luxury automobiles. Even then I don't think they became common until the 40s or 50s.

        Hate to burst your bubble but the four cylinder design is as old as the steam engine, and this new Hemi is as modern as anything on the Prius.

      Only 77 hp per liter, that is not a very high number. Europeans did this in 1999. Nowadays a 100 hp naturally aspirated per liter must be achiveable without to many problems. Must be the low revs because of those giant valves. At least you can crew a supercharger on it.

      They don't say whether it can run on pump gas. At 530 ft-lbs I would think the compression ratio is too high, but they don't actually say.

      For $13k, it should come w/a harness and computer at least.

      Figure an extra $1k at least for that. Plus it still needs acessories (PS pump, alt, AC comp, brackets). Figure another $500.

      So for $15k, this is one expensive engine.

      For that kinda coin, you're approaching a Gen II aluminum World block Hemi motor.

      It appears to be a drop-in crate engine for the LX cars (or whatever else). 392,426 and even 440 stroker kits have been a hot commodity in the new-hemi community and they often cost far more than $13,000.

      Its a pretty good deal but I would probably have an Arrington 440 Hemi stroker built over this regardless.
