David Higgins joins Subaru Rally Team USA – Click above to watch video after the jump

The speculation over exactly who will be taking Travis Pastrana's spot in the driver's seat with Subaru Rally Team USA can officially be put to rest. David Higgins will be the new man in blue and yellow. Higgins has a résumé that's chock full of rally wins, from championship titles in SCCA rally here in the states in 2002 and 2003 to a British National Rally Championship title in 2004. The guy also managed to walk away with a championship wins in group N in the British National Rally in 1997, 1999 and 2002.

Needless to say, the guy's got the chops to keep the pace.

Subaru plans to campaign two cars next season, and while Higgins is the newest member of the team, the leader of the pack will BMX guru and rally beast Dave Mirra. Mirra managed to snag a Rookie of the Year award from Rally America for his efforts last season and took a slot on the podium during the Rally America Olympus event among others. Hit the jump for a look at a video of Higgins doing what he does best as well as the full press blast.

If only Subaru would sell an STI with a body kit like that.
?? I can't see the rear bumper, but the front one isn't that much different than the stock STI...looks like they just substituted some ducting in the fog light locations, added an extra cutout right below the grille, and slapped a strip of rubber below the front lip.

I was thinking the same thing. It's killer!

Whether Higgins was the best choice or should be their number one is debatable. What's not is that paid rides in motorsports, let alone in rallying, are hard to find. Probably the way it went is Subaru only wanted to spend so much money. For the available talent to fill the seat, who was willing to do their bidding for their price? Mister Higgins is the answer to that question. No doubt that he's good. Will he win sufficiently, draw the fans (like Travis did), and customers to Subaru? Time will tell. In any event, congratulations to him for landing the best USA rally ride available.

Very cool video but what is that chirping sound?
A lot of people will tell you it's the wastegate or the blow-off valve (both parts of the forced induction system).... but it's not.

It's actually the sound of compressed air stalling and being sucked BACK through the turbocharger in a series of miniature compressor stalls whenever the throttle is abruptly cut off. That's why you hear it when the driver is slowing down for a turn.

It's not a sound you'd want to hear on your passenger car, because that behavior is excessively rough on the turbo unit, but like Anti-Lag, it's a practice that's used to extract maximum performance to the detriment of the part's longevity.
Why wouldn't they use a BOV instead? Backing pressure up into the compressor just slows down the turbo and you don't want to lose momentum.

How do you call englishman driving a japanese car - Rally Team USA!

Because the team is based out of the US...

Why is Mirra still the "leader of the pack" when this guy clearly has more experience and is a proven winning driver when all Mirra has is "Rookie Of The Year" and a podium?

Does this guy know hes coming all the way over here to play second banana to a BMX cross over who isn't even that good?
Rally in the states now follows the Nascar model, personality over skill.
There is a very easy answer to why higgins is second banana to Dave Mirra, that's a loyal fan following. Look at the guy standing beside the car, he's a total geek. Who would want to wear a t shirt with his name on it, who would want to support a guy like that? Look at all the people with monster energy shirt with ken blocks name on it, he's not a good looking guy, but at least he's bad A.
I'm sure he does, maybe he's knows he's better and just trying to get his foot into the door, time will tell.

I just hope one day I am rich enough to be able to afford to buy/rent a WRC Rally Car and just push it to the limit.Pure adrenaline...

When can we start using the phrase: "He pulled a Higgins" ?

How about after he flips his WRX Rally car in mid-air and lands it to go on and win the race. Yeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhhh! He pulled a Higgins !!!
Is it me or are the RallyAmerica cars getting faster?
You don't know much about RallyAmerica do you, tankd0g? Actually, you don't know much about any motorsport it seems.

-You don't know the rules of Formula D
-You don't know the regulations on horsepower in RallyAmerica
-You seem to think NASCAR drivers have no skill

Happens when the only limiting factor on how powerful your car can be is how much cash you brought.
