Electric cars are getting into the mainstream media more and more these days, and the reception is, well, interesting. As we saw with Fabio on Fox the other day. Last night, Fox bully Bill O'Reilly was on David Letterman's show and they kind of ripped into electric cars after a long discussion about WikiLeaks and O'Reilly's new book, "Pinheads and Patriots."
Actually, aside from the jokes – Dave always needs to play the clown – both O'Reilly and Letterman kind of give electric vehicles (EVs) a decent run. They agree that EVs are expensive, that they're not that complicated to build and they can help us get off oil. The big problem: they're not available – right now – in the styles that people want. It'll be interesting to see how the Letterman interviews go in two years, when the first EV wave is well established and the second one is arriving.
This is not Letterman's first go at EVs. Last year, he had on Bob Lutz to talk about the Chevy Volt after he brought on Tesla's Elon Musk for a Volt hate fest. Plus, he's been driving an electric car for two years. He didn't say which one, just that it's "like a clown car" and ridiculous." Anybody know? Watch the video after the jump (scroll to 4:50 in the video to get right to the electric car stuff). Thanks to Andy S. for the tip!
