Jay Leno drives the Hennessey Venom GT – Click above to watch video after the jump

In his quest to get his mitts on every piece of covetable sheetmetal on the planet, Jay Leno has just had a Hennessey Venom GT in his modest little garage. With 1,200 horsepower packed into a lightweight chassis supplied by the gurus at Lotus, the machine is what our supercar dreams would be made of – if only we took LSD before bed. John Hennessey, the man behind this beast, says that the original goal for the Venom GT was to create a vehicle that made no apologies for its performance and power-to-weight ratio. As a result, don't expect too many creature comforts to crop up in the cabin.

At around 2,700 pounds, the Venom GT provides one of the best power-to-weight ratios of any vehicle made today – production or otherwise. The biggest surprise is that even with all that power, the engine is sucking down about 18 psi of boost and runs off of pump gas. Sounds tasty to us. Hit the jump to see the late night funny man's take onthe Venom GT.

I'm having trouble finding any real info about John Hennessey or the Venom GT on the tubes. Seems like this should be a world record holder if the specs presented are true..

SORRY BUT...what a pice of crap talking ...thats just a Exige GT1 whit a new engine
        • 4 Years Ago
So the reason you continue to post is? It's like you don't think, nor do you ever research before posting.

This car is not built on the Elise GT1 or Exige GT1's chassis. The chassis was developed by Hennessey, not Lotus. The only thing done by Lotus is the body, which is what they continue to show credit towards in their early videos of the car.
So he took the best part about the Lotus and tossed it just so he could have a body that looks like a more reputable car maker. Thanks, got it.

      be still cody!

I wonder if Jay frisked him and checked his pockets before he left his garage. lol

I ll much rather have a twin turbo ford GT or a twin turbo saleen S7. both look better, exotic and are surprisingly cheaper.

Wow, YOU again? How many times am I going to have to reply to your stupid posts?

I'll tell you why, it's two feet longer. Two feet longer and the wheelbase is over a foot longer, there is just no way that car is going to have good dynamics. I admit I don't know a ton about the SSC, but I am pretty sure it's a ground up built car, much different than a pieced together mish mash like the Venom.

He says it makes no apologies, but then says it has traction control, the tires are off the shelf, as is the windshield. John puts together cars on paper, and builds them, but his testing is done by the end user and he hopes it holds together. If you knew anything about this guy, you'd know people are not calling him a crook for no reason.

Uh what makes you think THIS isn't a ground-up car? Just because it looks like the Lotus Exige, it's a ground-up car? How about you go look up the dimensions to the SSC Ultimate Aero TT? You might be surprised that they are close to being similar to a Lamborghini Diablo (they used to be a Lamborghini Diablo replica builder before making their 1st production car). Oh and also, they use a twin turbo GM-sourced V8 just like the Venom GT.

So please, explain to me how the Aero is any different than the Venom GT...

didn't anyone notice that the car didn't idle well?
hmmm.... $900k didn't seem unreasonable for what would be a lot engineering work on a car that idles well...
Even the guy from Hennessey sort of hesitates before giving that ridiculous price.

Oh the wondrous pieces of engineering you could have for 900k. I won't even include a list, I'll just say, Everything minus Veyron.

      *crook*
        Hennessey is full of it.
I wasn't going to call him a crook they he drop the $900,000 price tag. How the hell can he justify that price with a corvette motor, 600 dollar wind sheild and 3000 dollar tires???
        Onwayroll,

I believe $700,000 of the price came from the fancy gold foil in the engine bay. lol

"John Hennessey, the man behind this beast, says that the original goal for the Venom GT was to create a vehicle that made no apologies for its performance and power-to-weight ratio."

John Hennessey, the man behind this beast, says that the original goal was to rape and steal, and he made no apologies for his raping of young children and dogs...

lol. i wish they would ignore this hyper lotus. its not that special, and should be priced under 100K. if anyone else had made it, it would still be weak.

Is there anyone Jay won't over talk?
He actually wasnt that bad in this one. The "guest" usually doesnt even get to speak...
I'd take that silver Camaro with the tasteful alloys and facia in the background :)

Awaiting "Hennessey is a crook" comments in 3... 2... 1...

        lol, 4 minutes.

You know, normal crook comments aside, I think this car being just shy of a million dollars is criminal. Chevy crate motor + elise frame + some fabrication and standard mods like Brembos, and they want 900k? I'm sorry, that just doesn't add up.

This car is awesome and I could care less about the cry babies here whining about Hennessey. It not like any of you could ever afford his products anyways.

        Go Hennessey!

If you could care less, that means you care.

It makes a $380,000 Lexus seem like a bargain.

The guy is nuts - and very likely a crook.
yeah, i think it's pretty nice.

but asking 900.000 for something you dind't design from ground is way .....

the didn't make the engine, probably made by pete on the corner using a crate block.
the basic chassis is made by .....
        the dind't make the turbo
the dind't make the dry sump system ... there was a label on it.

        what are you paying for?

i have been using Turbocad since a week, i did already some really nice stuff, like rims, cranks, etc, etc.

the plumber is earning alot of money.
i gues i should move to the US, lol
