Gran Turismo 5 vs... Mario Kart 64? Click above to watch video after the jump.

GT5's Nürburgring vs the real-life Nürburgring? Pfft. Please. The best side-by-side comparo yet involving Polyphony Digital's Playstation 3 opus comes from the gang at G4TV, who pit the new Gran Turismo 5 karting feature against the beloved classic, Mario Kart 64. Snap judgment: One of these looks (a lot) more fun than the other. Sorry, Yamauchi-san: Miamoto's legendary plumber wins this duel without even having to toss a single banana. Now, time to dust off that N64 in the garage...

makes you realize how amazing nintendo can be, and wish for 4 player kart battles in gt5.

You can also shoot real people in the face, but that doesn't stop me from playing CoD.

The real win: With Mario Kart, you can play up to 3 other friends in the same room. Forget going online looking for "friends," just play against your real buds. Or your kid. Or your dog - if he's any good.

Multiplayer-anything on the PS3 is crap unless you've got big fat bandwidth to burn; not as much fun to those of us who actually have friends to play with.

      Those Shifter carts seem slow.
I've never experienced anything like one though. If you get a chance to take one out, do it.
      They are so much fun.

Mario is definitely much more entertaining...

I'm sorry, aside from comedic entertainment, WTF?

Aside from stating the obvious about the 1st poster, I'd like to thank Autoblog for taking me back (at least for a minute, 56) to a simpler time (No grades, girlfriends, no worries at all). I still remember gathering up the friends after elementary school and playing this and the best game to ever hit the 64...Goldeneye. Hell you could even say that this was the game that got me to take that first step into the automotive obsession that I have now. I guess I am a little biased because I grew up with Mario Kart, but I'd take the 64 graphics over the GT5 game play any day....well at least when it comes to Mario

ya cause this post is taking up valuable space from all the other topics that should be covered on a Sunday afternoon. I'll never understand people on the internet who take the time to complain about something that is apparently wasting their time more than complaining about it afterwords.

Yeah, I too enjoyed the karting games when I was a kid, but comparing Mario and GT5 is insulting to GT5 so the OP was still right about that. However, that camera view from behind in GT5 does look really arcade-like so I get the reason for the comparison. The GT5 drivers camera that shows the wheel is a million times better. I'm going to call that rear camera view the Mario-cam from now on, just because this stupid video has stuck it in my mind.

Usually comedy is supposed to be funny. This is just silly.

@jeff This is the reader comments section. If an article is mocking GT5, it deserves whatever comments it gets. Live with it and relax a bit on the complaining about people 'complaining'.

Mario Kart 64 and Double Dash for GC...best multiplayer racing ever.

But I'll give a shout out to the original arcade version of Sega Rally...

When you guys are done being let down by GT5, the weather's nice in Seacrest County, the cars are awesome, and the police never back down. :D

Custom soundtracks will do the trick. :-)

There's something I still miss about the original. I think it's the music.

This is another example of the '80s all over again. Those who think otherwise are deluding themselves. Underpowered cars to satisfy the eco-freaks and the corrupt politicians. I'm waiting for the 'eco crowd' to tell me I'm living in the 80s. Yeah, sure...
