Jason Plato vs David Coulthard in the Red Bull F1 simulator – Click above to watch video after the jump

The Race-Star ConverTTable is cool and all, but compared to Red Bull's F1 racing simulator it's just a toy. Jumping behind the Red Bull sim's wheel are David Coulthard, whose Formula 1 resume boasts 247 starts and 13 wins, and Fifth Gear's Jason Plato, himself a two-time British Touring Car champion. You'd expect DC to mop the floor with Plato, considering that BTTC cars are a long way from the open-wheel racers of F1. So, what happens? Hop the jump to check out the clip.

Poor DC. But it was just a sim, and that DC wasn't really trying hard at all. Plato was just a mass of sweat at the end of it.

Real world would be even more different of course.

I guarantee DC was trying, wouldn't you? I thinks is obvious DC is in better shape though lol.

Great video. Fifth Gear seems to have their connections in their own right and are developing some really great videos to watch.

I think Plato is under rated and DC was over rated.

I for one am not a fan of Martin Brundle's commentary, in fact I would say the best F1 commentary comes from SPEED TV. Im not taking away from his efforts in F1, anyone who makes it to F1 in the first place is a hell of a good driver.

I wouldn't say Coulthard is overrated. He's actually won races. He's won over 10 races. That's not easy. Before we discount that, let's consider that Weber was in line to win the championship this year, and he's only won 6 total. Martin Brundle never won ONE race. He's revered for his F1 commentary and understanding of the sport.

I agree with you; Plato is not appreciated... But he is a good driver.

      So that was Sebastian's simulator!

      And Mark's was a ColecoVision or a Commodore 64?

F1 is as much about glamour as it is about racing. Obviously, you need to be at a certain standard to be an F1 driver, but bizarrely, you're more likely to get in if you're pretty good and good looking rather than really good and ugly.

That's why David Coulthard was once an F1 driver. He's ok, but he's not the cream of the crop. I mean, he once got beaten in a charity Kart race by boxer Howard Eastman! Sure, it wasn't in an F1 car, but if Howard Eastman got beaten up by Coulthard, he wouldn't be able to show his face in a gym ever again!

I feel like these should be in every Dave and Buster's.

I probably wouldn't go to work much anymore.

Ok but now put them on the track with real F1 cars and see what happens. Plato is a great driver no doubt but there is more to it then is just in the simulation.

Some interesting stuff, but I don't think that Coulthard was giving it his best :) I wanted to hear his comments on the simulator comparing to the real F1 car, but I guess the differences are clear as they are.
