Porsche and Bentley are related under the Volkswagen Group umbrella, and a new rumor suggests that the two might become kissing cousins. Autocar had a chance to speak with Porsche CEO Matthias Müller, and the head honcho of the German sports car vehicle brand says that a collaboration with Bentley could help push future Panamera variants foward. Per Müller,
"I think we have to discuss with Bentley whether we can put together our performance, our engineers. It should be possible."
He goes on to state that sticking to just a four-door sports car is boring. The Panamera should be revised into a handful of iterations, and Müller uses terms like "van", "combi" and "longer." If you are a Porsche loyalist, we'll give you a minute to restart your heart.

One variant we hope the Brits and the Germans can breathe life into? A Porsche 928. There have been rumors and speculation for years now, so perhaps this inter-brand teamwork is just what the doctor (would have) ordered.

        @ Almo

Just to elaborate on your post, I don't really understand why an information that two brands (in VW realm, manufacturers are reduced to brand names sooner or later) belonging to the same company are about to cooperate makes news.

Porsche may cooperate with Bentley, Lambo, Bugatti, Skoda, Seat, Audi, VW and (within 20%) with Suzuki, all belonging to the VW Group family. For crying out loud, Lambos share some interior bits with Skodas. But that VW will not leak. But Bentley and Porsche.... BANG, and the all too eager journo village jumps in and swallows it all, fisherman including.

So, in other news, a part of VW Group will share bits and pieces from the corporate dustbin with another part of VW Group.

I always thought that all the brands part of VW Group collaborate with eachother on a regular basis?I mean they should at least share ideas...

Hmmm, a Bentley suv based on the Cayenne with conservative bodywork and that big Bentley V8 engine but all the technology of porsche. Bet you could double Bentley sales and make a more accessible vehicle at the same time.

      please don't let this happen

The Panamera isn't a bad vehicle, its just not that great looking. And not in that Audi Quattro ugly kind of way.

Unfortunate Porsche descends into the belly of the VW beast and is now being digested...

If they make a new version of the 928 and the 944 I will forgive them for the Cayenne and whatever this will result in. I actually like the Panamera now.

Why do I want to see a 928 so badly? I will never be able to afford one, but it's a car I root for everytime I see something on the Panamera. I guess I just have this spot in my nostalgia heart that begs for that 80's GT car to return. The same way I want to see another DeLorean come out in my lifetime.

it's not like Bentley could make the Panamera.. worse.. right?
The Panamera is an incredible sedan... try driving one.
The look is unique and in person takes time (a lot of time) to grow on you, but at least Porsche didn't copy a typical sedan shape. Besides, you can blame the Porsche designers... they've had very little practice in the past 60 years drawing anything other than lightly modified 911 curves.

I pretty sure the only thing worse than the look of the Panamera is another Panamera beside it.

Don't you mean Audi? Or more specifically, VW?
