Subaru Impreza Design Concept Video – Click above to watch video after the jump

Subaru has given us all a computer-generated look at what the company's new Impreza Design Concept looks like in motion. Frolicking above the waves on some sort of futuristic glass highway, the sedan looks just as well sorted and attractive as it did lounging on stage at the LA Auto Show. The quick clip doesn't just show the four-door prancing through cyberspace, though. We also get a quick glimpse of the vehicle's active braking system and Jetsons interior, too.

The Subaru Impreza Design Concept gets its power from the company's third-generation boxer four-cylinder engine. With 2.0 liters of naturally-aspirated goodness and a CVT, Subaru says that the concept should be easy on the wallet when it comes time to fill up the tank. Naturally, we're far more interested in the next iteration of the WRX and its STI sibling... Hit the jump to check out the video for yourself. Just be sure to brace yourself for the smooth sound of synthesizer action.

      Oh, and BTW...

      Thank you, Subaru, for figuring out how to market and sell a vehicle... by making it COMPELLING.

      Nice design, and a nice little video, too. It is great how visual appeal helps people decide to WANT the product.

      I hope this is the other side of the new leaf you just turned over.

      Really like the look of this concept, but worried that they haven't shown off any hatchback versions of it.

      Also there is a loooooong way to go from 1-off concept car and a few renderings and actually morphing this design to be production ready. The next-gen Impreza could very well look almost nothing like this design.

      Visually, this is the basis for an awesome looking WRX/STI variant. The STI almost designs itself from here. I can't wait!

        Sorry, on re-reading my own comments after posting I noticed that the 'tone' sounded much harsher than intended. I just meant it as a clarification. I was actually a huge fan of the boxy, in-your-face 2nd generation STI model although I never thought it was "pretty." The current model hatch seemed to lose the previous gen's mojo...until the recent sedan version was released. The current sedan STI is a little hodge podge but I like it much better than the hatch version. Maybe I'm alone on this but the concept they're previewing now reminds me a lot of the Prodrive P2 which itself was Subaru based. I remember thinking then that they should really produce that car (at a realistic price). Whatever the case, I like where they're going with the design!

        Now, Sue, there's a *lot* more to making a STi than just adding a huge box-kite wing, hood scoop, bigger fenders, blue paint and gold wheels.

        Although, visually, I can't for the life of me guess what they might be, as most of the WRX / STi goodies are under the sheetmetal.

        But completely agreed that this will make for a much prettier Impreza / WRX / STi - I can't wait to see it hit the road

        @Sue: Yeah, I gotcha. It's all good.

        With this Impreza, the looks are finally going to catch up with the performance!

      i won't lie....i LOVED that video.

      i know it was CG, but that was more dramatic than we usually get out of car commercials these days. sort of like the ones Lexus used with the champagne glasses back in the day. plus, it insinuated AWD. nice.

      Wait, I didn't see a hood scoop.
        • 4 Years Ago
        @wirak
        You'll get the hood scoop on the WRX / STi with the intercooled turbo.

        Expect rear wing and big fenders to come with the scoop.

        @wirak
        Because it isn't turbocharged.

        This is not, I repeat, NOT, a WRX or WRX STI.

        Moving on...

      Looks brilliant. People will love it if Subaru will produce this concept..

      Best looking Subaru since the SVX. Stunning, absolutely stunning.
      • 4 Years Ago
      I'd really like to see those rear bucket seats transfer over to the production vehicle. Actually, the whole interior would be pretty nice for a production car. Especially if the touch screen sticks around after the STI badges get applied...

      Awesome, I Love it, Great Video, Great Stylish Subaru.

      Please make it a 5 seater!
        • 4 Years Ago
        Doesn't Subaru have enough 5-seaters? As in, EVERY other car in their lineup?

        Subaru has plenty family haulers as is. Perhaps something sleeker is in order.
        • 4 Years Ago
        as many have said, the legacy and the outback don't look as good.
        this impreza concept looks beautiful, and it would suck if they are stepping away from a 5 seater

        oh and I also don't like the two side mirrors, i prefer side mirrors more. plus, teens are just gonna rip off your cameras
